Low buy 2026

Hi all,

I’m looking to do a low buy year. I’m not poor, I just want to be more careful with my spending. Has anyone else tried a low-buy year and managed to stick to it? Any tips would be really appreciated.

On a practical note, my big wool blanket isn’t keeping me warm, my windows are huge (privacy film is on), and my heating bill was £200 higher than usual. Would a wool mattress topper help? I’m thinking about buying an extra duvet for layering. And does anyone have recommendations for long-lasting window insulation for large windows?

I have a heated blanket that I use in evenings on the sofa, it’s saved me a fortune in heating bills and covered its cost several times over.

How thick is your actual duvet? Maybe you need a higher tog one for the winter?
