BT costs and digital

BT issues.

backstory is relative is extremely financially stretched.

their second largest bill is BT!

why are they paying them for watching TV? Is this an upselling thing?

They have been switched to digital, can they watch TV without paying BT?

Since switching they are unable to receive calls from an overseas relative and last month spent £50 calling them. This isn’t sustainable any ideas how we can fix this?

It’s impossible to say without more information about the particular tariff/contract they are on and what that is meant to include. Do they have access to their online account? Can you access it with them and see what the contract is and what the things are that they are paying for?

Whether they can watch TV separately, and they should easily be able to, depends on what TV they have and how they are used to using it to watch TV.

They can have BT BB without the TV package and yes, they can watch normal DTV straight through their TV.

Don't understand the thing about not receiving overseas calls unless they have been blocked somehow.
Is this through the BT digital land-line?

BT TV is definitely an add on. Without it you can still get freeview channels via aerial. They may also have some form of call screening in place to minimise scam calls which blocks overseas numbers but there may be a way around that by listing the number as allowed.

Thanks @everyone this has been really helpful.

No online account relative is elderly and wouldn’t do that I have noticed they are paying for a paper bill, overseas calls is BT digital landline they might have been signed up for some anti scam call thing which might explain it thanks (they think their overseas friend can’t get a connection.)

we did find a bill I will look again but it is some kind of Netflix and something and something I think they have been upsold something they would never use but that’s for a discussion with BT next week.

thanks heaps for the thoughts
