NSD for me today 😊
Hope your knee is ok @chimichangaz
Same here @BigSkies2022 🙄 l bought my mum a brand new gorgeous spring duvet set for Mother's day and l was so disappointed to see it on another residents bed before My Mum had even used it ,despite having her name all over it in indelible black ink . I never make a fuss about trivial things but l actually did complain about that and demanded they took it off washed it and put it on my Mum's bed 😱
Good luck 🍀 🤞 @Seaside3
Yay re the tax rebate @Pigtailsandall😊
Have a lovely time @PearlsPearl 😊

chimichangaz · 16/07/2025 15:39

Thanks @MaryGreenhill - my knee is strangely very much better today. I say strangely because it really was so so painful, I was even thinking I might need to go to minor injuries!! I'm not walking or driving today, just pottering around as I need to drive tomorrow to take my car to the garage for the tyres to be fitted.

@Frugal25 it was me that bought the mat for upstairs, last Saturday. I've gone as far as laying it out, but being busy with the dog on Monday and then laid up with my knee yesterday I haven't got much further. However I am toying with the idea of also getting a bench (ideally one that folds up), and then knocking gym membership on the head altogether. I definitely have the room since my son moved out and he's left his barbell and plates here with no sign of taking them to his home.... I already have a set of kettlebells, some hand weights and resistance bands. All I'm missing is the action of actually exercising 😆

In terms of spending, I supported an online business coach I used to work with who's going through a tough time by buying one of their products (£14), some succulent compost for repotting some aloe vera plants, some Bazuka gel for a very stubborn wart on one finger (yuck), shoe storage shelves for the hall which I've wanted for ages and wedges to stop the fence panels rattling (also wanted for ages). So that's my £50 insurance payout gone - but on mindful rather than mindless spending.

I've been listening to a book called The Art of Frugal Hedonism on Spotify the last few days and I've really enjoyed it, if any of you have Spotify with audio book membership.

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/07/2025 16:33

I would have kicked off too Mary

MaryGreenhill · 16/07/2025 17:09

Thank you for saying that @lifelongfrugaleer 😊
Glad your knee is better @chimichangaz 👍

BigSkies2022 · 16/07/2025 18:14

Yes that’s a definite red card for the laundry service!

ooh, frugal hedonism! Definitely going to seek that one out. I think I have free Audible for a bit- will engage!

no spending by me today although I see DH has cracked and bought cheese and a baguette!

almondcroissantsatdawn · 16/07/2025 18:15

I am interested in frugal hedonism

ChipshopPickledEgg · 16/07/2025 19:20

Got to admit the Latina in me would have come out at the bed thing - how inexcusable to be honest I would be demanding the home reimburse.

MaryGreenhill · 16/07/2025 19:55

Thank you @ChipshopPickledEgg l was fuming at the time but calmed down and realised their bedding is all washed on 60C for hygiene H&S regs and that would have killed any germs . Also it had just been put on from the laundry so no one had slept in it .
They sorted it instantly as soon as l said TBF .

pistachiosanscream · 16/07/2025 20:24

Haven’t kept a tally of spending over the past couple of days but it’s going to be a tight one. I think we will have to fund the joint account as we are away next week and there’s not enough in it for meals out etc.

my payday is the 25th but I’m bracing myself for a lower amount as I’m on parental leave for part of the month. DH has agreed to split this with me though.

Seaside3 · 16/07/2025 20:31

Thanks @MaryGreenhill and @PearlsPearl

Bought mum her bir5hdqy present today. Just £22 as quite frankly she has everything, so a token gift is fine with her.

Dinner was chicken, sweet potato and salad. Some salad left for tomorrows lunch, alongside boiled eggs in a wrap, hoping it will be a nsd.

Frugal25 · 16/07/2025 22:13

Mmmm cheese and baguette. Nom
I'd be fuming about the duvet too but I'm glad they sorted and fast. Phew.
Thank you @chimichangaz , sounds like me, all the gear, just need to get my bottom into gear!!! Def get the bench. How cool would that be. So glad your knee is getting better too.
NSD here.
Lidl tomorrow but a small shop as just bits to tide us over until holiday and OH has just said he isn't here tomorrow night due to work so even less to buy. DD and I are happy with pasta from the cupboard (OH hates pasta) so a small basket of things it will be. Although cheese and baguette may make an appearance now I have a craving.

SockHop · 16/07/2025 22:43

I spent £63’on a Sainsbury’s delivery and £13 on a box of 25 poo bags for Ddog. Should last a while at least…

i didn’t really need the food shop to come today. My freezer is full of meals for me. Dd had enough food too. Most of the order was healthyish snacks for dd and a restock of fresh fruit and veg, but I could have got away without both until the weekend. My delivery pass at Sainsbury’s is midweek only though and I’m potential at work late tomorrow so it was a choice of free delivery today or waiting till next Tuesday. I think maybe next month I’ll upgrade my delivery pass to have more options as I think I’ll spend smarter if I do a food shop every ten to 12 days rather than weekly which is what Im ending up doing now. I have discovered that amongst other bad habits I have a tendency of unnecessarily stocking up on items rather than just buying the amount I need for that week.

Tomorrow should be a NSD
other than tube fare into work.

MaryGreenhill · 17/07/2025 09:34

£18 Aldi for a bouquet of flowers and a nice bottle of wine for the cleaner ,who is leaving Mums residential home. She's just lovely and we will miss her .
Yes thank God it was sorted 🤔 thank you @Frugal25😁

Pigtailsandall · 17/07/2025 19:42

Kinda spending every day but not extravagantly. Wednesday I brought a sandwich to work but had it for breakfast and then had to buy a few supplementary bits, like a yogurt and hummus - £2.75. Then met a friend for dinner - £42 but delicious and lovely to see her. I'm trying to be a bit more sociable, I feel it's an investment in my mental health :)

Today £4 for iced coffee as worked in a coffee shop for a bit, and £18 for tickets for dc for a kids event later in the year. I spend a bit in the summer booking stuff for the autumn but then it's nice rolling into winter with stuff to look forward to.

Frugal25 · 17/07/2025 21:22

A small shop at lidl today to tide us over until holiday and then pizza and sides to put in the freezer for the night we get back.
£37.88. paid for by mum as I couldn't find my card but I'll pay her back tomorrow bless her.
Repaid her by cutting her grass, cleaning her house a little and helping her clean her sofa covers.
£10 for party at play group for DD. She loved it so worth the pennies.
Should be a NSD tomorrow other than repaying mum back. It's pay day thankfully too tomorrow. Phew. Made another month.

Pigtailsandall · 18/07/2025 07:56

Frugal25 · 15/07/2025 22:59

Im going to enjoy pouring through the 2013 thread tomorrow on my lunch break!

What one did you go for @Pigtailsandall ? I swing between fussy and wild. Prefer fussy as not as messy... Could be the fact I through the cartridge away for it though!!!

Oh. And someone else bought a yoga mat for upstairs.... I can't remember who sorry.
I was also going to do this, put it in my study and in boring mtgs do a few yoga moves or sit ups. Let me know if it worked for you, hopefully I'll buy a second mat soon and it works for me too!

I forgot to reply! I hot a Wild refillable deodorant. Tbh the decision was based solely on name and looks 😅 as the containers were curer and the scent (coconut) was appealing. Still using up my £1 standard one but excited to try it.

Frugal25 · 18/07/2025 11:20

Love the coconut one!! Makes me feel like I'm on holiday all day ☺️

Pay day here. Whooooo.
Paid into my pots.
Paid my mum back for lidl yesterday

I'm expecting a NSD today unless something goes wrong.
I'm trying for a LSD tomorrow as the morning we are at home packing and then driving to Staunton for our holiday in the afternoon, we pit stop off at a national trust for a break and we have cards so should be free to get in although I may be tempted to buy a coffee and cake for us all as OH doing all the driving bless him.

MaryGreenhill · 18/07/2025 12:35

Bristol Costco, popped in for a few bits £58 and an air fryer oven, big enough for a pizza , from the big Asda £64 and filled up the car £34 . Lunch was £4.50 l had a jkt pot DH had the hot dog 😁 On our way home now . Beautiful day 23C 😁

Mochi1fudge · 18/07/2025 19:05

Fell off the thread! Tried to catch up but there was three pages so will start from here.

Menu for this week is a work in progress, weekly shop tomorrow. Will definitely be making beef chilli and black beans and bolognese as I have butchers mince in the freezer.

Last day of the school year 🎉 treats for DD so today was spendy

£32 B&M
£44 Sushi place in town
£27.50 Superdrug
£25 Jelly Cat
£14.95 ear piercing

So thundery and hot here. It might break tomorrow just in time for the school holidays in England 🤭

chimichangaz · 18/07/2025 19:55

Welcome back Mochi.

Yesterday was a bit spendy for me. Added a warranty to the tyres I had fitted +£33, bought new sandals in the sale £44, had a costa coffee and paid for parking, also had a McDonald’s for lunch as I had to wait so long for my tyres to be done. But I did get a double refund from TK Maxx.

I’d also had a voucher from coop for £5 off a £20 spend and I was feeling a bit meh so I had some wine, snacks and topped up my fruit. Spent last night working my way through handmaids tale and then caught the end of the Lionesses. £13 today on a day disco event in a couple of months.

Trying to gee myself to get off my backside and cut the grass before this weekends storms!!

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/07/2025 06:38

£114 in Asda but that did included a frying pan, dishwasher tabs and meat. Defo more expensive than Aldi

MaryGreenhill · 19/07/2025 11:53

NSD for me today at long last 😁.
Weather warning for us from 6pm till 9pm Sunday . Heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend 😊

BigSkies2022 · 19/07/2025 15:27

A few low and no spend days here, aided by the fact that Dmum insisted on giving me some cash 'for all the running around you are doing', which I have spent on food and a few quid to DS.

However, that will change soon, as I have now got a quote for an overdue renovation at the rental property, and I won't get out of it for much less than £2500. Also, poor DS has gained weight and grown out of the suit he bought last year. He needs a decent suit so I am going to buy him a new one, with certain conditions: it needs to be navy, black or charcoal; a proper wool, in a sharkskin/herringbone weave, not birdseye; and a more classic/tailored fit than a fashion-y slim fit, since he is built more like a discus thrower/heavyweight boxer than a high jumper (I have the Diamond League events on atm). Hawes & Curtis/Charles Tyrwhitt should see him right for around £350. Poor lad: which of us have not had to let go of a favourite item, even temporarily, because months of stress eating and reduced activity have caught up on us!

DH has booked us an extra night in Yorkshire next weekend, so we won't be racing back the same day as graduation, which is a relief. I've booked us a table at a French restaurant which gets a lot of love from the likes of Jay Rayner. Ddog needs another haircut!

Right: got soaked taking Ddog for a walk today, but need to get more steps in, so time to get off this sofa and outside again. Ooh, men's 100m though!

ChipshopPickledEgg · 19/07/2025 15:54

So glad he has a compassionate mum who realises life is bloody hard and sometimes we just need to he helped out of a situation we've all been there with emergency shopping for an outfit.
A very social led weekend this weekend for us keeping the spends to the minimum we can and taking snacks for DD from home etc.
Sometimes I can't believe how many times I tap my card in a week.

SockHop · 19/07/2025 16:49

I spent £10 yesterday on some beers for my friend who came round for the evening. She bought us a takeaway though so I got the better deal!

Today I finally got round to buying an ikea wardrobe for the box room/study. It’s become a bit of a dumping zone and I’ve been looking at cupboards for a while. I’ve gone for one that is pretty much going to be floor to ceiling across one wall. It’s a small room and currently not particularly accessible with random boxes of junk blocking the way to the desk. It’ll be good to get it sorted. £400 including delivery. The money came out of my general savings - although I’ve always said I’ll use some of on house stuff.

I think I’ll use the summer holidays to get the house a bit better organised in general. It’s so much better than it was - but as well as the box room DDs wardrobe is in DIRE need of a sort out. She’s also got a lot of toys she might be ready to part with (she gets a bit over emotional about this). There’s stuff stashed in the eaves too which I can either sell or if not just clear out. So hopefully by the end of the summer I’ll have a more zen like organised home and a bit of extra cash generated by selling my unwanted things on vinted :-)

Today I also bought Dd the stationary and maths equipment she’ll need for secondary. Nearly £60 on amazon! I probably could have found lots of it around the house - but I’ve bought most things in bulk (pens/pencils etc) as I know they’ll need replenishing fairly frequently - so hopefully it will be a one time purchase this year. It’s come from her longer term pot. I think the only things left to buy now are shoes (normal school shoes and PE trainers) and PE shorts. Annoyingly she needs new school shoes as the ones she wears to primary are too trainery in style even though they still fit her fine.
