Water Bill increase

Just got my water bill today and my monthly direct debit has doubled!
Already on a water meter and very careful use, showers, dishwasher, not flushing after just a wee etc.

Anyone else?

Ours went up by 32% there's only us two!

Widespread, as the water companies are on the ropes and they're now raising cash for investment by upping prices.

Check carefully for any leaks.

Contact the water company and check you're on the best tariff.

While speaking to them ask if they've any offers for stuff to reduce usage. Anglian used to have an offer called Bits & Bobs where they'd supply things like a block to reduce the cistern capacity on the loo and diffusers to reduce tap flow.

Sane here. Is it Thames Water? Tried the chat function but I have to call. We were paying £44 dd and they now want £83! I knew it was going to go up but had budgeted for £60. Our water consumption has not gone up that much!

Remember that you are probably consuming more especially if you have a garden and plants to water as the weather becomes hotter. I made sure that I jetwashed my back patio in late March on a sunny day before the price rise in April.

My water bill (Thames Water) is also increasing by 50%. It is well known that in past Thames Water has failed to properly manage its infrastructure and instead payed large dividends to investors and it feels like the burden for their incompetence now falls on their customers. I have really tried to reduce my water use, e.g. Water Butt in the garden, shorter showers. But there is only so much you can do.
