So electricity and gas.
We pay £245 for a 2 bed house for two people and a 2 year old. Seems a bit too much hence asking. Done a bit of insulation in the house but not a new built.

@Doggymummar mine is more like this too - and with octopus- I’m amazed how low some people’s are - 4 bed stone built semi but all new windows etc, but H works from home and it’s tech heavy for his job and our converted garage has a separate heating system - it’s a rented house ( very attractive one) so I can’t change it - we also have electric underfloor heating in large areas downstairs - it is incredibly expensive so try to avoid having it on apart from a couple of hours a day in winter - luckily some areas downstairs have gas too - I would never rent anywhere with electric UF heating again that wasn’t an integral part of the main central heating - at one point when we first moved in I just let the estimates go on for months and we ended up £1000s in minus- as I hadn’t realised how drastic it was - my fault I know- lesson learned.

2 adults.
Both wfh, DH has his powerful music related PC on all day and eve. Log burner for winter use.
2 bed detached 1940's bungalow, old boiler - 104 pm with Octopus.

Aikko · 21/04/2025 17:24

I recently sent my monthly meter readings.

£77 total for gas and electric this last month
I pay by variable direct debit.

2 bed Victorian mid-terrace
Thermostat on at 18c all day.

AFrankExchangeofViews · 21/04/2025 18:34

£165/month all year round for gas and elec, use can be as high as £400/month in the winter but most of the year its less so it evens out. 3 bed semi, heating on auto for about 6 hrs/day set at 19 degrees (any warmer and i start sweating!). I also turn it on if it goes lower than 17 in the house. Heat pump dryer which I use several times a week, and a 250L megaflo in loft which usually only gets heated once a day unless someone wants an evening bath.

Coronationchicken34 · 21/04/2025 18:36

Small 1 bed, live alone, about £85 total for gas and electric.

susiedaisy1912 · 21/04/2025 18:41

£170 per month for both all year round. 3 bed semi and we have the heating on when we want and I use the tumble dryer a lot.

WinterNightStars · 21/04/2025 18:51

£120 pm combined - 2 adults, 3 bed 1960’s detached. We run 2 electric cars. We’re with Octopus.

LittleLlama · 21/04/2025 18:55

We pay £200 a month year round (currently £150 in credit, looking to start building this back up, as we can spend £500 a month in the winter). 1960s four bed detached house and an EV car. Currently with Octopus. We are at home a lot (retired) and our son works from home. Gas heating, water and oven. We had new insulation put into our loft two years ago and are double glazed (but over 25 years old).

nobodywantsit · 21/04/2025 19:20

£120 a month. 2 adults, 2 bed semi and both WFH at least half of the week. Gas central heating and water.
Tumble dryer used a lot in Winter and wet weather.

Leafstamp · 21/04/2025 22:07

£140 per month all year round. With octopus.

4 bed house (but not a large one if that makes sense) 2 adults, 2 teens. Dishwasher and washing machine are on a lot but we are in the south and don’t feel the cold/wear layers so probably save money on heating.

notnorman · 22/04/2025 08:48

7 bed 30s house £280 pm

It really depends where you are. You could be in any continent/country so it doesn't make sense to ask.

Also what type of house.

Thanks all for your comments.
Of course I understand it depends on usage 😂 I just wanted to know roughly how much people spend in similar circumstances. Have to admit we both like the house toasty and it’s usually set up at 22C and the toddler’s room gets really cold at night if we turn the heating off so since having her we keep it at 18C at night which doesn’t help - used to be off all night previously. May try to lower the thermostat to 20C and see if we are happy with that.

I’ve never had the heating on at night even when the children were newborn. Only ever on from 6am-9:30pm when they were home and off during the day once they were in school, 6am-8am then 3:30pm-9:30pm

3 bed semi converted to a 2 bed to make bigger bedroom. 2 adults and 1 year old. We use about 400-500 a month electric in winter. I use the tumble dryer every day and we have no gas so old water tank boiler and electric heaters. In the summer much less around 150 but I only use the tumble in winter as with electric heaters I can't dry clothes inside. I do worry it's alot and something wrong but think it's the electric heaters ect. I am tempted get a log burner. There's about 10 houses on my street all the same and they all seem to have one. Maybe that's why lol

MikeRafone · 29/11/2025 06:57

3 bed detached
two of us sometimes 3

i pay the bill monthly, give a meter reading on the 17/18 and pay by 28/29th

i put £125 a month away in a separate account

November £129
october £94
September £48
August £50

looking back at last January and February the bills were £140 and £130 each month

I have around £350 in the utilities account accumulated through the summer, so will keep paying in £125 to cover the monthly bill. I’m getting 4% interest on the money, so not a lot but it’s easier to adjust or take the money and start again

henlake7 · 29/11/2025 20:14

Single person in a small terrace. I pay Octopus £100 a mth.
I tend to get through about £50/mth in the summer and it can go up to £150/mth in the winter if I have the heating on alot.

TheLuckyOtter · 29/11/2025 21:36

2 bed flat, myself and a toddler. £87 a month all year round with Scottish Power. New-ish build

AnneElliott · 29/11/2025 21:55

We pay £230 on a 5 bed semi and there are 4 of us living there.

MotherOfRatios · 29/11/2025 22:00

Single person in a 2 bed flat and wfh 4 days a week 1 office day, wash about 2-3 times a week.

I paid £100.70 to octopus DD but my bill for electric sits around £34-38 and gas £10-17 a month I have baths a lot but don't really put the heating on unless it hits 16 as I prefer a colder home (I naturally run warm)

tinyspiny · 29/11/2025 22:00

Between £150-175 , 3 adults in a large 4 bed detached built in the early 90s . No skimping on heating , using dryer etc . We are with BG .

Wynter25 · 29/11/2025 22:02

Between £60 and £90. 2 bed. 1 adult and 3 kids. For gas and electric Octopus.

Arlanymor · 29/11/2025 22:18

Just paid my November bill when I have been working from home almost constantly and had the heating on. £77 with Octopus. December will be less as I’ll be out a lot more and staying away from home for at least 10 nights. Two bed flat, live alone.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 29/11/2025 22:22

£150 a month gas and electric plus about £800 a year for wood. We have solar panels in the summer so the electric bill is cut in half for those months.

singthing · 30/11/2025 11:39

£80 a month (year round) combined gas and electricity.
2 bed semi, usually have the temp sat around 17deg, gas central heating is on timer 3 x 1hrs a day. I am home 5 days of 7, if I get cold I usually put an oil radiator on next to me than the whole house heating.

I got a community switch tariff organised by my local council and it came with a lower standing charges AND tariffs than what Octopus could offer.

My last bill (8 Nov) was
Total gas costs (excl. VAT) £17.47
Total electricity costs (excl. VAT) £42.85

Statsquestion1 · 30/11/2025 11:44

€150 per month max. I’m in Ireland 5 bed, 3 story house and everything runs on the electric. So that’s it energy wise. We are getting solar panels next year and hoping to have pretty much no cost.
