So electricity and gas.
We pay £245 for a 2 bed house for two people and a 2 year old. Seems a bit too much hence asking. Done a bit of insulation in the house but not a new built.

We are with Octopus

I pay that for a 4 bed and we run an electric car, but my MiL pays more for a 3 bed so it does vary

we are OVO

Agathacardsformula · 26/03/2025 12:42

£128 a month (all year round), going up to £132 next month. 1 adult at home all day, 2 teenagers.
Gas 12803 kwh, electricity 2162kwh for 2024.

Agathacardsformula · 26/03/2025 12:43

Should say that's a 4 bed, 1930s semi.

itsleviosa · 26/03/2025 12:56

£110pm year round, 2 bed apartment WFH

doingmyutmost · 26/03/2025 13:24

A ridiculous amount! £600+ a month. We do have a large (but modern and well insulated house) but we try to be frugal with heating, turn lights off etc.

TreatYoSelf2025 · 26/03/2025 13:25

£160 a month gas and electric in a three bed.

TeaRoseTallulah · 26/03/2025 13:28

We pay roughly the same OP, also with octopus and 2 adults and an adult child who comes and goes. Electric shower which I think uses a lot and we use the tumble drier all through winter.

Touty · 26/03/2025 13:30

About 90 per month combined with British Gas, 1 person in a 2 bed terrace.

YourWinter · 26/03/2025 13:30

I live alone in a 3 bed concrete semi. Electric cooking, oil heating and hot water. Electricity is £71/ month and oil around £600 a year, maybe a little more if it’s a cold winter and the heating is on (low) overnight. I don’t like hot rooms and the thermostat is never higher than 17 degrees. I wash mostly at 20, use the oven only once or twice a week, I don’t boil the kettle if I can make a drink in the microwave or velvetiser, all the light bulbs are low wattage and only on when I’m in the room. The ancient fridge freezer is probably the most wasteful appliance but I won’t replace it until it packs up.

No tumble drier and I wash dishes by hand.

ohtowinthelottery · 26/03/2025 13:34

£35 a month for electricity and £580 twice a year for oil (so equivalent to £97pm).
We do have solar panels and a battery (so sell electric to Octopus which is credited to our account) but live in a 5 bed detached house. Only 2 adults now though as DS bought a house a couple of months ago and moved out.

INeedAnotherName · 26/03/2025 13:37

It's difficult to say if that's reasonable or not until you state what temperature you keep your home at, and for how many hours. Some people like it running at 20C day and night, mine is around 14C and I use a hot water bottle in the winter evenings. What electrical items are you running and how often? Are you on a fixed or variable rate?

Look at your usage, look at the cost per unit, and compare those instead.

Oistinemup · 26/03/2025 13:42

Too much

£308 per month . Am with Octopus on 15 month fixed for both gas and electricity

Four bed house - very open plan. DH who likes long showers and hates wearing jumper and socks at home , plus adult DS who has his PC on all the time . I’m the frugal one 🤩

Mikart · 26/03/2025 13:43

£175 a month DD to Octopus. We are £800 in credit even after the winter.
Moved in.November so I shall reduce DD going forward. 3 bed semi 1930s build. We never have heating on past 8pm and never above 20 degrees.

We're also in a 2 bed, that's got good insulation but old drafty windows that need replacing.

Our bill is less than half what you pay at around £110 pm and I WFH. We don't stint on heating and everything except the heating, ie shower and cooking is electricity so increases the cost.

So I'd say that's a huge amount but you need to check if you're paying the right amount for your usage, are your bills correct or are you in credit and also consider if you can reduce your usage at all. Find an energy saving guide and run through the advice to see where you're using a lot, eg heating, tumble dryer etc.

wherearemypastnames · 26/03/2025 14:05

House between 19 and 20, all day as we are home, and under 100 a month 3 bed semi

great insulation

short showers and not every day
clothes not washed after one wear
oven only used for batch baking

Meadowfinch · 26/03/2025 14:10

Just rising to £130 a month for a four bed, relatively well insulated 1890s house.

Two people, who are out most of the time, ds at school, me at work.

the80sweregreat · 26/03/2025 14:11

Octopus, 3 bed semi and it’s £186 a month and we are in the red :( ( 3 adults live here, ds2 wfh)
Hoping that will change once we get into spring and we can even it up a bit. It went up last year from 170 or something so can’t afford another rise really, but we may have to.

jellybe · 26/03/2025 14:12

We are with octopus and pay 165 a month for a three bed semi.

MemorableTrenchcoat · 26/03/2025 14:14

A more useful question is how much do you use, in kWh.

Sunnyside4 · 26/03/2025 15:06

We've been paying £137pm for ages, just received a refund of £400 and our payments have been put down to £100pm. We only have £170 credit, but that'll start going up soon as heating it hardly on now. With Octopus. 1960s bungalow but converted with two extra bedrooms and bathroom upstairs as well as extension on back (four beds). Heating set to timed at 18/18.5c although we're often here so goes back on again in the day when it's cold.

Too much in what way? Your £££ bill is your usage times your rate, which of those do you think is too much?

Either turn stuff off or, if you're on the price cap rate, try to get a lower tariff

You might think it's a lot of money but too much isn't a relevant description as it costs what it costs (assuming of course that your meter isn't broken)

usernotfound0000 · 26/03/2025 15:12

£65 a month, 2 adults 2 kids in 4 bed new builld. But we have solar and an air source heat pump, prior to the heat pump we were paying £110 a month. Tariff switch and clever use of the battery has reduced costs significantly.

Ineedthesun80 · 26/03/2025 15:16

£150 for 1920’s 3 bed semi,going up to £167 1 April.

Devilsmommy · 26/03/2025 15:18

£140 for a 2 bed flat with 2 adults and a 2 year old.
