Renting with low credit score

Hi everyone

I have just found a private rental that I can afford, however my credit score is very very low. No CCJs but missed credit card payments mainly. This is because I got divorced a few years ago and relied heavily on credit cards to start all over again. I recently started a repayment plan as now have stable employment but it will take a few months to get my score back up. I have no guarantors as I am not originally from the UK. Has anyone had this sort of experience and been able to get a rental? The landlord is using an agent so I cannot reach him directly. Thank you.

Unfortunately I think it'll be hard for you to find a private rental. There's so much competition nowadays so there's no reason for a landlord/agent to choose you over someone with a better credit score.

You'd be better to go via something like FB Marketplace and find a landlord d that is not using an agent, as all agents will refuse you.

Even then they may want 6/12 months up front I'm afraid.
