That seems a massive jump

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 01/02/2025 00:00

Just checked their website and it's stating 9% if you pay for both water and waste

jennylamb1 · 01/02/2025 00:03

That is right, I am staggered. There has been an article in the Southampton Daily Echo but little other publicity.

How the hell they are allowed to do this all at once, they are already one of the most expensive water companies in the country. It will be an extra £25 a month can see a lot of people not affording this. Thanks for the links

NW England. Got our water bill yesterday….up 27%.

Overthebow · 01/02/2025 06:58

Ours has gone up around 25%, £10 a month. Thames.

Yeah they are all going up

SnowdropPancake · 01/02/2025 07:12

20% up here.

Apparently so they can invest in fixing leaks and infrastructure. Only I am 45 years old and I've heard that shit for at least the last 25 years.

They need a new line lie line.

What's worse is this isn't all of it. They have to increases planned for the next five years apparently. To hit a target increase by 2030.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 01/02/2025 07:15

Yeah they are all going up the next couple of years because apparently the water companies can’t fix everything without more money. But don’t worry it doesn’t affect their bosses wages or the shareholders profits 🙄

Growsomeballswoman · 01/02/2025 07:23

Are they putting your direct debit up because you have not been paying enough?

SnowdropPancake · 01/02/2025 07:37

Growsomeballswoman · 01/02/2025 07:23

No. All water companies are raising their prices by a significant amount next year. The minimum raise is 20% and the maximum is 47%.

Wherever you are. You will be seeing the same raises next year - even if your water company has not told you about it yet.

If this puts anyone in dire straights remember there are Social Tariffs and other potential reliefs:

Firstshoes · 01/02/2025 08:47

I'm with United utilities. Mines going up £20 a month to £84!!!

Arlanymor · 01/02/2025 08:48

At least my water company is not-for-profit so it’s not making shareholders rich and if they use the money to sort out phosphorus in rivers and sewage spills then I can make peace with it, particularly if it creates new jobs in the sector as it’s mooted to do. I’m fairly frugal with water anyway, so hoping that the 26% hike will only impact me in real terms to the tune of an extra tenner a month. It’s going to be brutal for some people though - but don’t forget there is help via the social tariff: www.ccw.org.uk/save-money-and-water/help-with-bills/

£84 a MONTH 😧

Meadowfinch · 01/02/2025 08:52

I pay mine twice a year, about £260 a year in total, but my mains water is Southern and my waste water is Thames. No idea what the increase will be.

Omg 😧

United Utiliities had the second highest number and duration of sewerage dumps last year. Disgusting. Don’t pay your wastewater.

EasternStandard · 01/02/2025 08:58

Yep there was coverage of this on the radio. Water bills are going up loads

Add that to council tax going up

People are going to feel worse off

Firstshoes · 01/02/2025 08:59

Meadowfinch · 01/02/2025 08:50

£84 a MONTH 😧

Yes I really can't believe how much it has risen since we moved in our house 15 years ago. We are just coming off a 5 year fixed this year so will have mortgage increase, council tax will be increasing too.

jennylamb1 · 01/02/2025 09:03

The problem is that water companies have been hollowed out, paying directors huge amounts and passing big dividends onto shareholders without investing in the infrastructure. They always knew that they were too big to fail and that the consumer would end up carrying the can. Scandalous.

SnowdropPancake · 01/02/2025 09:06

Mine's already £90pm for water usage that is a little bit below the average for the house type/size.

It's going up to £110 this year 😡

SnowdropPancake · 01/02/2025 09:07

When we moved in 7 years ago we used a bit more water at first (cut down since) and it was £55 per month. It's more than doubled in 7 years!
