British Gas EV Tariff

I hope I’m not about to get flamed…
trying to switch to a better rate for gas and electricity before October…British Gas have offered me an EV tariff which is much better for us as we use most energy overnight. We have an EV charger on our drive but don’t currently have an EV. Will be looking to get one in the near future once finances allow. If I go on the EV tariff will they ask for proof - I know the T’s&C’s say they can but will they actually?
Does anyone have any experience or advice?
(Please be kind, I normally play everything by the book but energy companies are raking it in while we’re feeling the pinch and I don’t see what difference it makes to them if I have a flash Tesla or little 1.2 petrol corsa)

Sorry no experience or advice, but you really shouldn't be flamed. It's ridiculous what they are getting away with charging us.

I'd hope you can go ahead with the cheaper tariff. If they do ever ask for proof then oh no you have just sold that car and they can put you back on the old tariff.

They can tell if you're not charging an EV, all the EV tariffs are smart meter dependent. What they'd do about it I've no idea, but it is really easy for them to monitor (I've seen it in action!)

We’ve been on our octopus tariff for a while but they did ask us for car’s serial number at the start. And we have to let their app control a vehicle charge for us at least once a month to keep the tariff. British Gas are probably similar. Sorry.
