I got caught shoplifting

1000 replies

RoseBiscuitll · 09/09/2024 15:02

I really didn't know what topic to choose for this

I'm mortified, I got caught shoplifting in boots today, I was stealing baby milk and a facial moisturiser. I'm so ashamed of myself. It was in the city center aswell. They didn't call police but they took my details, took a picture and told me I can't return to the store again

Will this picture and my details go around to the other shops near by or will it just go to the other boots shops.

I can't believe I was stupid enough to do this! I'm so embarrassed and also feel really guiltily!

You've made many blanket statements about budgeting and being frugal. Certainly enough to give me the impression that you think benefits in general are enough to live on and that all one has to do is cut their cloth accordingly.

Most benefits are enough to live on, including OPs. Of course there will be exceptions.

Cobess · 10/09/2024 18:17

People are so harsh on here. I know a few people that have done this, times are bloody hard. Just take it as a lesson and try not to dwell on it lovely.

That's an opinion, not a fact.

I haven't had three meals a day for the entirety of this year. And I get an increased rate, plus I don't have to top up my rent.

If I had to top up my rent by £250 every month and I wasn't on the increased rate, I wouldn't be able to afford to spit in a glass and drink it, let alone buy food. I honestly dread to think how some people are managing.

Well, as we can see, they're managing by getting so desperate that they steal from the shop.

I'd love a care team! I can't even get an appointment for urgent medical treatment, let alone have a team of professionals looking after me.

The NHS is a shit show 100%.

Nor me. But I’ve never had a care team. I’ve had different consultants, and I used to be able to easily access my GP.

No more - contacting my GP requires more energy than I’ve got.

The whole NHS is an inefficient shambles now. 🙄

Whether I'm entitled to PIP or not is irrelevant. UC should be enough to live on.

You're just making this up as you go along, aren't you? I'm able to work because you know I was at the supermarket once? I really don't think you can extrapolate whether I'm well enough to work based on one visit to the supermarket.

That's nice for you that you're bessy mates with your consultant. It's a bit ludicrous to expect that consultants countrywide have a close personal relationship with each of their patients. I doubt mine remembers what my name is.

Honestly, I've read some nonsense on MN in my time, but you're getting close to topping it with this bilge.

Please see my post. These people have no clue. I am on UC when my partner declared as a couple and I had a little in savings we got 0 previously rent plus job seekers now 0 Make sure you get all u r entitled to use food banks if necessary Don’t worry about SL they don’t have the resources to do what they say. Take help wherever Good Luck it won’t always be so hard x

I have the same problem with my GP. I used to be able to get an appointment fairly easily. Now, it is very difficult unless I am so unwell that they are no longer able to ignore me.

I was recently put on a dangerous medication with no monitoring whatsoever. As a result of being left with no monitoring, I became so unwell that I needed an ambulance and a trip to A&E.

How much did that cost? All because my GP won't let me have an appointment to make sure I'm alright. And apparently we don't have the money for benefits. Perhaps if they stopped spunking it up the wall on ambulances and A&E visits for situations that escalate unnecessarily, we'd have more.

I have no one really, apart from the very occasional meeting with my consultant. All of the treatment he wants me to have do not materialise because it just means putting me on another waiting list for years.

And I'm supposed to have a care team! This is why I actually laughed out loud when I read this. I have an ongoing complaint with PALS that is being ignored, which is the complete opposite.

I genuinely sometimes wonder if it's was the previous government's intention to put me in such a bad position that I committed suicide and saved them the bother of helping me.

Some people should think before they type. The woman was desperate to feed her child. I for one hope you get the help you need as as for the other ppl get off your high horse and stop judging.

So hard in fact that you pop in a moisturiser with your 'starving' baby's food.

The op was concerned about CCTV and if she'll be branded a thief by the local area.

If you've got a "starving" baby and stealing out of sheer desperation, I don't think your opening gambit on Mumsnet would be worrying about CCTV now would it ?

The song by the Kooks should sponsor this thread. So naive.

You seem to think people have reading comprehension difficulties. We have read it. You were being unpleasant to the OP, making ridiculous assumptions, and reporting back what she had said erroneously.

If the best thing you have to do with your time is pick on people in difficulties, perhaps you need to get a hobby.

Sounds like a legitimate concern in these circumstances.

The OP does not owe you the level of contrition you wish to dictate. This isn't even your business. Are you the CEO of Boots? Do you even work there? What difference does any of this make to your life?

You are sounding more and more unhinged 😀

She gets them but she was stealing moisturiser so might aswell nick the milk to

It's a compliment coming from you. You're so incapable of making a fair and accurate analysis, that I can only deduct from this that I must have very sound reasoning.

hotpotlover · 10/09/2024 19:02

I feel for you. Baby milk is so damn expensive.

PaillettenBedeckt · 10/09/2024 19:03

The OP has already explained that the milk vouchers don't cover the cost of the milk.

pot.kettle.black

(Close relative does indeed work for Boots)

Newsflash: other people are allowed an opinion, which goes against the hard left "group think"

And anyone suggesting can my family pay for the milk, no they can't, they don't even knownthat I'm struggling

I'm sure you have your reasons for not confiding in your family, Rose, but it is possible that they would help you a bit.

Differentstarts · 10/09/2024 19:13

If anyone is struggling financially their is another thread up about how to save money on netflix 🤭

Dibbydoos · 10/09/2024 19:15

Hi @RoseBiscuitll the good thing is you are not being prosecuted.

If I was you I wouldn't buy from boots anyway - they are expensive compared to quality save, B&M, Home Bargains etc, so I'd go there.

Google where the cheapest milk is too as this'll help with budgeting.

At 6m old your baby can now transition to solids to reduce the need for so much milk.

I used to blend portions of the food I ate tbh. It means you don't have to buy baby food (every little helps!) I saw in Lidl they had hand blenders for less than £10 if you don't have one. Put the portions into pots leave only that days food in the fridge and freeze the rest. Mashed bananas and other fruit are great desserts or in-between meal snacks.

Good luck x

PaillettenBedeckt · 10/09/2024 19:19

And therein lies the problem. UC isn't enough to cover the basics.
