I got caught shoplifting

1000 replies

RoseBiscuitll · 09/09/2024 15:02

I really didn't know what topic to choose for this

I'm mortified, I got caught shoplifting in boots today, I was stealing baby milk and a facial moisturiser. I'm so ashamed of myself. It was in the city center aswell. They didn't call police but they took my details, took a picture and told me I can't return to the store again

Will this picture and my details go around to the other shops near by or will it just go to the other boots shops.

I can't believe I was stupid enough to do this! I'm so embarrassed and also feel really guiltily!

Were you unemployed before getting pregnant? Because otherwise have you not been receiving maternity leave pay??

My colleague is on UC, she works full time but is also a single mum in a council flat. She receives £800 UC every month as standard, (untouched) anything above that is then deducted against her monthly earnings. So £700 does seem low not factoring in CB etc. she also puts her daughter in a holiday club throughout half terms and UC pay her back 80% of that total. So although difficult, if you're struggling to feed you baby, you may well need to get back into work and place baby in a nursery or with a childminder.

CarrotCakeandCoffee · 09/09/2024 21:34

Bloody hell OP has made a mistake as I'm sure all of us have done in our lives! She has recognised she was wrong to do it and I bet even some of the most sanctimonious people on this thread have done something immoral before!

The judgey pants can stay unhoiked, women taking milk are obviously desperate, hence the shop's response.

And facial moisturiser..

I hope you get a criminal record in time. That will damage your future job prospects and travel opportunities.

Poilin · 09/09/2024 21:46

I would imagine they will use your photo for facial recognition on the self check out tills .just go to the ordinary tills next time you go into any boots x

Actupfishy · 09/09/2024 21:48

Oh for god sake - shut up with the pile on. Heaven forbid any of you holier than thou folk fall on hard times.
Please speak to HV OP or food bank to offset the cost of baby milk x

Absolutley not after what happened today. But I live near city center and still would like to go shopping there for baby clothes etc

Why are you buying new stuff if you have no money? You can get most things free or very cheap second hand from Facebook marketplace. If you are skint why are you wasting £120 on a cot? This is madness. There are so many available for 20 or 30 second hand.

Again, as many posters have stated on this thread, people can sell baby milk for money. So it's not necessarily for the greater good.

Is that how it works, I read somthing earlier that someone in the store will get a notification as soon as I walk in the shop

it's obvious she wants to feed her child and doesn't have enough sorry but this is just ridiculous. Someone stealing baby milk doesn’t mean they can’t afford it, maybe they can but have chosen to buy other non-vital items and stole the baby milk as it is the one item with the highest value. Or stealing the baby milk that they could afford, so they can instead get new lashes. Ot they know baby milk can be easily re-sold.

Who knows, maybe they live a very modest life and were desperate.

But it is pretty silly to assume stealing baby milk must be due to a genuine need.

I read that article and still didn't understand, where is it then at what point would someone be recognised

There's a lot of awful crimes happening in the world right now and yours isn't one of them.

I hope your financial situation improves. Have you got anyone to help you?

I don’t condone looting, as that tends to involve violence and is usually fairly indiscriminate, BUT I don’t see it as any worse than the looting being done by billionaires and massive conglomerates that will destroy the planet and keep working people impoverished, while the super rich lounge on their yachts and private islands.

OP just nicked some milk and moisturiser. Big fucking deal.

But she stole and that is wrong, regardless of circumstances

@helpmethankyou

I was replying to a poster who was laughing about stealing stuff like nail polish repeatedly by hiding things in her kid’s pram. Not someone in need. Just a thief. Read properly next time.

Had to buy the baby a bigger cot, as she's out grown her next to me crib

That set me back £120

And yes 120 was one of the cheaper ones I could find

I found a next to me crib from Kindercraft for £65.

As someone who is a huge advocate of breastfeeding- this is an utterly ridiculous thing to say.
