Hi guys anybody have temporary accommodation advice someone who perhaps works or used to work for the council?
so I’ve recently split from my husband not divorced yet. So staying at my parents temporarily with my toddler. Their house is soon to be sold. I have a contacted the homeless shelter as I have nowhere to go. Can I use my parents home as a temporary accommodation until they find me a place ? How does it work ? My toddler has nursery so idk if moving will be good for him. Or do I not get a say ? Oh and I’m on a 0 hour contract and use my mum for childcare so I can work 1/2 days ? Does this help ?

As long as you’re living with parents, the council will essentially consider you housed and won’t allocate temporary accommodation: you will need your parents to state that you cannot move with them and have nowhere else to go as from X date. The council will then find you something temporary - but it will be whatever they have available and there’s no guarantee it will be close to your DS’s nursery or your parents’ house, or your work; and it may not be a very nice place to live. If you can live with your parents whilst you’re considering permanent housing options, it would be far preferable to do that.

Bear in mind that unless there’s been (documented) domestic abuse, the council will also consider that you could return to your marital home, when assessing your housing need and their duty to house you.
