UC and NSESA

I've been off work since Feb this year after having my son. I was very ill with post partum depression & anxiety and was hospitalised. I've been written off work ever since I came out of hospital. I haven't been getting SSP from work as I was on mat leave before I went off sick so wasn't entitled to it. Me and my partner have been receiving UC but not much as my partner works.
I've just applied for New style ESA as it seems I should be on this as I have a disability or illness affecting work? Anyway, I've applied for ESA, my question is, does it get backdated?
It asked when I went off sick/when I wanted to claim from but it said it can only be backdated 3 months. So will I get 3 months as a back payment since I've been off work since Feb?
It's all very confusing. Sorry if some of this doesn't make sense, I also have autism which contributes to me not being able to work at the moment

NS ESA can be backdated as you suggest.

It counts £/£ against Universal Credit so it's a straightforward question of which pays most and whether NS ESA is more than UC.

If you're waiting for a Work Capability Assessment (WCA) bear in mind that if you're found to be incapable of Work Related Activity/in the Support Group in NS ESA the extra money is more in UC than ESA.
