Moving to Scotland

We are going to move back to Scotland hopefully, ( my husband is from there, but has been liivng in NZ for the last 18yrs) there is a job hr has applied for approx £67k.
Is that enough for a family of 5 ( 3 kids 6, 11 & 13yrs) After asking a few people over there, they seem to think it won't be enough.
There will be no mortgage, but I have noticed that the council rates and water etc are very high compared to NZ where we currently live.
He has been gone from Scotland for so long and NZ has a big difference of salary and cost of living so we aren't really sure what is a good wage there for a family to live on. What is a good, amount to be able to live comfortably on please?

Thanks 🙂

With no mortgage id imagine youll be fine unless you have high outgoings. Things that are expensive for 5 are holidays and food. Its a decent wage and even split in two is more than a lot of people make.

Where are you moving to, as that will determine how comfortable, or not, your lifestyle will be.

You should be fine, depending on location and lifestyle expectations.
You say no mortgage, does that mean you can buy outright? If so, consider your budget vs location. Things have changed since your DH has been away. Houses aren't necessarily as cheap as some think, especially in the cities, Edinburgh particularly.
Are you able to work too? That'll help with the cost of a large family, wherever you end up.

I think that will be enough as long as you aren’t living somewhere expensive like Edinburgh.

It’s definitely enough for a family live on if you don’t need to pay a mortgage or rent.

Whether it’s the standard of living you would like is another matter.

Thanks, everyone, for your thoughts on the subject.
We are just in the process of sorting out a job. Not 100% sure of the area yet as that depends on where the job is. They have offices in both Glasgow and Edinburgh. DH family is in Glasgow, so it will be that area, hopefully . Also, it sounds like the cheaper option to buy a house as well.
I will look for a part-time and school friendly job (if available) once we are all settled, which will help with money.
👍🙂

Tax is high in Scotland - if £67k is before tax, you will have about £47k after tax, or less if pension contributions are also deducted.
