I work in a seaside town in NI

Its one of those towns which is dying because everytime a house comes up for sale, some rich fucker buys it as a holiday home or turns it into an Air BnB

Anyways today, I took the rubbish out and was just caught short by the true divide.

The corner I was on , a multi million pound hotel is being built, for when the Open comes to town in 2025 ( one of five hotels being built in preparation ).

The other side of the road, Food for All was delivering to the church hall for the weekly food bank

I actually cried.

Im not rich, we manage, nothing spare, I can still donate and do what I can for charities , but theres less and less each month. Im grateful that we both can still earn and arent totally reliant on our pensions. But seeing that such stark contrast has actually had me in tears today

I just can not get that that image out of my head

That's so difficult to equate isn't it.
Untold wealth on one side and abject poverty on the other. I'd shed a tear too.

I have an issue with golf courses in that , if I recall correctly, more land is devoted to golf courses in the UK than to wind farms and solar farms. All for the privileged few and have unlimited access to water too.

And how insulting the the food bank users to see this ostentation whilst humbly accepting some milk and bread.

Portrush? I loved the place when I was growing up, but I haven't been back in years, so I am sad to hear this. Although the town has been dying for a long time now, at least you still have Barry's (or whatever it is called now!) Hopefully the hotels will bring lots of tourists, although five hotels seems excessive (I miss the Northern Counties).
