Can anyone recommend something I can have instead of sky? The monthly cost has gone up

Call sky and tell them you want to leave and they usually offer loads of money discount

ThatDreamSheep · 15/03/2024 16:43

Now TV packages are run by Sky.

I cancelled mine a couple of months ago and at the moment I'm paying £6 a month for ITV premium so I don't get the adverts. When I've had enough of that I'll cancel it and do the same with channel 4.

LolaJ87 · 15/03/2024 16:47

Cancel and get Now TV on offer, every time you cancel Now they give you another offer. I currently have the entertainment package, movies and Hayu for €15 pm.

Drop the TV License fee. Go streaming only.

Watch anything on ITV, 4, 5 etc on demand.

Just pay for Netflix - Disney+ - NOWTV etc
Have 1 a month instead of several.

Drops the cost of watching the telly from License fee + Sky etc to about £15 a month depending on which streamer you have that month

Plus, having it on a rolling basis, means that you can watch everything you want, then have new things to watch when that service rolls around again. 🤪

Thanks all. Didn't know whether to get a stick or some sort of freeview thing? I like recording on my sky box

i need to get my signal through the dish so I have borrowed a friends freesat box which the lead from the dish plugs into.

If signal is fine after testing it I will be ending sky once contract is up.

CornishTiger · 17/03/2024 08:06

Also different boxes have different features but yes some can pause, rewind and record. That’s an important feature for us too

Snowdays23 · 17/03/2024 21:14

Ive got sky stream, I had months of just streaming on apps etc but then got fed up so paid for sky stream but im not actually sure if I like it....
I watch netflix, disney and occasionally eastenders so guess I need to keep the TV license going?

GasPanic · 18/03/2024 11:25

You can normally record straight to USB stick on a tv without sky box, but it can be a bit limiting. For example sometimes you cannot watch another channel at the same time.

There is a huge amount of TV available at the moment I think. You will not get the latest stuff, but with BBC iplayer, Channel 4. ITVx and My5 and all the freeview channels there is a lot of quality tv available just there on those services.

I am with Virgin Media and after my monthly bill went up to over £100, rang them and advised that I wanted to cancel.

They sudddenly managed to reduce the price to £57 for the same package for 18 months...

hamjamwitch · 28/03/2024 21:55

We were with Sky TV for 20 years. Sent the Sky Q box back and got a Freesat box. Never looked back !

For Now TV, pay the first month and set a reminders to go back to your account in a couple of days, go to cancel your account, it will give you an offer, carry on to cancel it and you will get a better offer for a couple of months at a time usually..about 3 months. It will return to full cost after this time is up so repeat again.

I ended up paying full price every 4th month and getting 3 at reduced cost. At one point I was paying £2.99 a month instead of £8 for entertainment package. Now tv is part of SKY..
