We have a 17 plate car which we have had since June 2018 and it’s on a straightforward finance agreement due to end 2026 . Car went into garage under a recall for the EGR . Then had a catastrophic drive train error in September last year . We were quoted £800 in diagnostics to establish the fault then £1100 to rebuild the car however the garage could not establish what the fault was but advised it would need a new engine at cost of £11k .
After many emails to the HQ of the card brand it was taken to another garage by them who still have it and who have found numerous faults which suggests the car wasn’t properly rebuilt by the original garage and we still don’t know if the work done at the recall was the reason for the failure as in the report we got from the first garage they advised they thought this was the fault but couldn’t be sure and HQ without looking at the car told them it couldn’t be ,
Anyway we are now stuck paying £232 a month car finance £190 a month for the diagnostics etc which we took finance for and had to purchase a cheap car to use .
When we speak to the finance company to discuss what options we have about the car one told us they would auction it off way it is and we would pay remainder of balance left but then others don’t say that

. Just looking to see if anyone else has been in this position as we are totally broke with paying out £431 a month on a car which we will never be able to afford to fix plus running day to day costs of the car we had to buy in the meantime . The frustrating thing is we still don’t know what caused the car engine to fail and if indeed it was the work done at time of recall which was faulty .
