Food budget for month

ElleLeopine · 06/03/2024 20:16

Please can you tell me what you are spending on food for a month? There are 4 of us, and currently getting through £800 per month! I need to get this down, but no idea if this is normal or high.
I do a mix of cooking from scratch and some easy ready-made. And yes, there is wine in that!

5 of us and approx £1000 a month! It’s insane, I know.

WaitingfortheTardis · 06/03/2024 20:21

There are 3 of us, I'd say ours is about £300 per month now. Dd is still ks1 so gets free school dinners. We also don't drink alcohol so that probably helps.

Dacadactyl · 06/03/2024 20:21

Approx. 400 a month for 4 of us, including cleaning/laundry products.

I could do it for less if I had to.

AlltheFs · 06/03/2024 20:22

About £500, family of 3 all meals at home. That includes cleaning products and toiletries etc but not the pets.
Sometimes we can get it under £500, some months it is nearer £600.

That’s eating well but mostly from Lidl - but does include a lot of fruit for DD and about 4 bottles (cheap, maybe £6ish?) wine.

Sususudio · 06/03/2024 20:22

mine is a lot less but we are veggie and dont drink, surely it depends on various factors.

CSR721 · 06/03/2024 20:22

Omg! Thats insane!! We are a family of 3 and spend roughly 400pm. But our little is under 2 still so perhaps doesn't eat as much as an older child plus eats at nursery 2 days a week.

Isitbedtimeyet3 · 06/03/2024 20:22

I’m shocked! We’re a family of 5 and ours is £100 - £120 pw!

we shop at Asda and I cook everything from scratch. I do meal plan though.

RockSocks · 06/03/2024 20:23

4 of us
We spend around £600-700 a month but that includes cleaning supplies
We don't drink, 2 Dds are still in primary so not huge appetites

KnickerlessFlannel · 06/03/2024 20:24

4 of us, I budget £100 per week for big shop and £20 for a top up. Also spend £75 a month on amazon subscribe and save for cleaning stuff, kitchen and toilet rolls etc.
One child has all meals provided by us within that budget, second child eats all meals at nursery for 3 days of the week

missp94 · 06/03/2024 20:25

We spend £500pm as a family of 4 - this includes formula for our 5m old too. We do meal plan, cook a lot at home and don't drink alcohol though, so that probably helps!

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 06/03/2024 20:28

4 of us (2 adults, 1 child, 1 toddler) and we do £400 a month which includes everything from the supermarket

Flatleak · 06/03/2024 20:31

£250 1 adult. Including a food out and cleaning products

gaggiagirl · 06/03/2024 20:31

5 of us (2 adults 1 teenager 2 x 8yo)
Ours was £670 in February. All 3 meals at home for us all. Including cleaning products.
Trying to keep to a £500 grocery budget this month.

S72 · 06/03/2024 20:32

2 of us including lunches and one bottle of wine a week.

Between 200 - 250 excluding pet food and cat litter.

Sususudio · 06/03/2024 20:32

Looked at my bills. About £360-400 a month for 3 adults, which includes basic toiletries and cleaning supplies. If DS comes home from uni, it goes up to £ 560 per month.

Icantbedoingwithit · 06/03/2024 20:32

God mine is easily €1000 if not more. 5 of us, all adults. I definitely need to get it down!

Heatherbell1978 · 06/03/2024 20:34

Family of 4. 2 DC in primary school. Spend around £600 a month on food but could get it down to £500.

ElleLeopine · 06/03/2024 20:36

Mine include household cleaning and toiletries. There is me and STBXH, who is moving out soon. Then DS who is 25, and DD 14. So that is practically 4 adults.
I should definitely buy less wine!

3 adults, usually £150 per week, that's just about every meal, we rarely get takeaways or eat out. Also includes toiletries and cleaning products.

sleepwellifyoucan · 06/03/2024 20:37

About £450-£500 for 3 of us, but that includes everything, all toiletries, cleaning stuff, breakfasts, packed lunches for everyone and all evening meals.

SqueezedMiddleTummy · 06/03/2024 20:37

CarrieAnnQ · 06/03/2024 20:37

Between £800-£1000 a month here, 3 adults and 1 teen. Not including pets and alcohol. Make most things from scratch.
