UC have missed our Transitional Protection

Had an email this morning with the amount to be paid for our first UC payment. We moved over from tax credits on a Managed Migration. We were promised the same amount for approx 13 months but the first payment is £600 less ! The Transitional Protection was even logged in the Journal by a member of staff. What do we do now ?

Is the TP on your actual statement when you log into the UC portal?

TP is before deductions, so your wages could technically wipe it out. But if it’s not on your statement you need to pop a message to payments on your journal and ask them to add it.

Gov.UK website states the total amount should match the previous Tax Credits

Is the £600 less before or after deductions? It should tell you in your statement

Yes but it only matches before deductions because UC is on a sliding scale - the more you earn the less UC you need.

So without your TP you would have even less. Does that make sense?

I think the way it's been done has been a bit sneaky. They've made out no one will be worse off but the way that UC is calculated is so different and then once deductions are taken off people do end up worse off.

In our journal, the advisor sent us a message saying we are protected, even if we have over the limit savings

Yes the TP for savings is different I believe.

If you have over 16000 savings you're still entitled to uc but they will reduce uc because of this. Transitional protection means that you are still entitled for a year and they ignore over 16000

Can you post the calculations?

No calculations shown. It just says one child etc Then amount to be paid

Are you looking on the actual UC payment portal that’s on the website?

It breaks it all down for you there - will have all the elements and then what is deducted for wages etc.
