I bought an outfit in M&S. To be fair, I needed another pair of trousers for work. But I didn't need the top that I bought also.

Chile1978 · 22/07/2024 08:30

@Taytocrisps one top isn't too bad!

Frugajobs: £170 added to LT savings; have taken the day off as I am so tired I know I won't be productive at work and dd2 still recovering as well - will take her to the hairdressers for the cheaper Monday rate (save £2); fixed term saver still not yet accessible so waiting for that to expire; need to check the switch account for bonus; need to book airport parking and have paid last installment for holiday accommodation. Am over budget for July by 135.

Does anyone on here cook red kidney beans from dried? I know it would be cheaper than canned, but I've been a bit wary of doing this due to the whole 'you have to boil them for x amount of time or they are poisonous' thing.

I was thinking of buying a bag, cooking them all at once then freezing in portions suitable for adding to a chilli, or making burgers. Which is pretty much all i do with them.

I thought maybe, I could boil them for the required amount of time, then chuck that water away and then transfer them into a slow cooker to simmer away in new non-poisonous water.

I do.

Your proposal is fine. As long as you boil them for the recommended time, chuck that water, and then continue cooking them from there, you're fine.

When I was a student, I used to boil them, throw the water, put them in a flask with new boiling water and leave them to it.

Nellieinthebarn · 22/07/2024 10:39

@2024Hackathon thank you so much, I love using the slow cooker, I am very much a bung it on, wander off and forget type. I have boiled butter beans dry before now, lost the beans, the pan and stained the ceiling with smoke in the process. Slow cooker seemed a much safer option for me, so glad to hear it will work.

3bin bags of toys and an activity table dropped off at the community centre. About to crack on with some lamb tacos and a moussaka.

Frugajobs: haircut done, switch bonus not paid because of a middle name mix up so bank have said it will be paid within 10 working days from today, airport parking booked and got 13%off - £85 which I don't think is too bad for a week at Heathrow with m&g. Shuttle was £25 but it's worth the extra to me with not having to deal with the girls, luggage, pram, etc.
Tumble had to go on 🌧 but did 3loads on the line yesterday so don't feel too bad.

Rainbow1901 · 22/07/2024 13:36

Had a busy few days so forgotten where I am with NSDs - but have tried to ensure low spends if I have had to spend. Sold another item on Vinted and made gains in a couple of areas regarding money so have chipped away at a credit card debt!! 😏Also given an e-voucher by my neighbour so can have a free coffee or two - needs to be spent by the end of the month - I can manage that!! 😆

Happierwithouthim · 22/07/2024 15:52

Ynab is down for maintenance so I'm working from memory of my spends at weekend.

Sat - toll €2.30, but machine was giving trouble and gave me €1.60 change from my €2.30 Grin
€15 graffitti spray paint for ds, he's repurposing a kallax unit which was bright green, this will make it €30 spent on paint but he's enjoying the process and I bought inserts for it months ago, hoping it'll help get his room in order finally.

lunch from a deli counter not sure how much.

€20.55 takeaway for dc, they were so glad to be re-united that they declined going out for dinner with bf and I so we got a surprise few hours alone together while they stayed with my parents. Bf paid for dinner, I got icecreams afterwards €8

Sun
€8 approx at shop on return journey from my parents

Dunnes Click & Collect this evening approx €80

Work gang have organised drinks for night I finish up in my local which will be nice, I think I'll bring the dc along for a while.

Chile you've been productive at home, great going for someone that's tired!

If it keeps him occupied happier. Win win

Couple of ££ on a notebook

Happierwithouthim · 22/07/2024 19:16

I'd have bought a new black one for €65 and could've used the green one in the shed but it gets him away from gaming too

Have been rubbish recently and now away on holiday
think I better wait for new thread and then name change

Happierwithouthim · 23/07/2024 09:16

Click & collect was a nuisance yesterday - I had put back my collection on Sunday to watch the All Ireland Hurling Final which was one of the best games of hurling I've seen in a long time.

Arrived to collect, they didn't answer my call first, then when they did come, no frozen stuff, guy went off to check it out, then another guy came back for me to mark the items on my receipt, then they picked them for me, one item missing so I'd to email for a refund. Only last night did I realise there was no dog nuts either, which I wasn't charged for but would've got €12 bag for €10 as I'd have been eligible for another €10 off €50 and I'm scraping the bottom of his container. I'll get some on Wed eve, fly in and maybe use €5 off €25 voucher, or else just get nuts and nothing else Hmm
I was also waiting so long that I ordered a curry on just eat, which costs an extra 50c to avoid speaking to them on the phone and someone getting the order wrong Grin

Donkeys we will have a new thread in no time, enjoy the break and come back refreshed and revived Flowers

We're buying more 9L storage boxes. It will be £120 I didn't want to spend but the impact on our day-to-day life is worth it and it should be a step to reducing chaos in some areas.

I'm also on the look out for some more fridge storage that is usable. That might need to wait until I see a very good offer.

Chile1978 · 24/07/2024 06:57

@Happierwithouthim oh no! What a mix up. Maybe if you send an email explaining they might send you a voucher to compensate? I wish I didn't have to be so busy! But needs must. If I sat down I would just fall asleep so sometimes it's easier to keep going.
@2024Hackathon if it makes your life easier and better then it sounds a worthwhile purchase. I spent £400 on boxes around 5yrs ago and they're still in use keeping the loft tidy and organised.
@Donkeysdontdance see you in the next thread
Well done @Rainbow1901 👏
@lifelongfrugaleer for work or for play?

Have had to move £100 into the current account to see us through -parent's night out for end of term (because of illness this is unspent from the gym pot). Also have -100 on the cc. Trying to put budget together for August. Will have to top up the general spending pot due to the unaccounted for party spending.

Happierwithouthim · 24/07/2024 20:14

I'll get refunded for the potato cubes, pizza was upgraded from own brand to goodfellas, it's grand.

My friend is treating me and our other friend to dinner out tomorrow evening and they're collecting me so I'll get to have a glass of vino, love a mid week treat Grin

Brought all my food to work this week only one more lunch needed

Hope dinner was nice @Happierwithouthim

Money escaping seems to be slowing down thankfully now it's finally the end of term.

Frugajobs: saved £80 on theme park trip using vouchers and early bird booking; Putting together holiday itinerary over the weekend and start to cost out spending money needed - hoping to do breakfast at the airbnb and mostly sandwich lunches depending on plan for the day. So should be dinners out, admission/trip/travel fees, and then 2 x airport meal spends. Thinking £1k hopefully. Got partial refunds for 2 items - one I might try and sell (doesn't fit), and the other I will keep and use the refund money to buy the replacement (material is sheer rather than opaque) - hopefully means I shouldn't lose out except for £6.

2024Hackathon · 26/07/2024 11:11

DH needs a procedure in a hospital a distance from us. On balance, we've decided that it's better logistics to book an overnight hotel stay. All in, it's probably about £150 unexpected expenditure but I'm comfortable that this is a good decision.

Nellieinthebarn · 26/07/2024 13:08

@2024Hackathon Absolutely agree with you, we did the same when DH had to see his eye surgeon down south, it made the whole process a lot less stressful.
