Sounds brilliant @Happierwithouthim
No spend weekend is very impressive @Nellieinthebarn

An undisturbed night's sleep last night which was bliss! Could still do with more but will take what I can get 💤

Last bits for the party ordered. Just the cake, food, and special balloons to get.
Ideally get the laundry out on the line but don't think I'll have enough time to do that and weather looking grey.

RumBananaSundae · 02/07/2024 17:54

I’m excited about your party Chile.

Back still not good so I’ve packed the gym in for a few days in an effort to ease it to wellness. Feels rather strange not going.

Spending has been £1.45 on milk, £3.20 on some straws from Amazon and £80(ish) on a GPS app.

The weather is making me nervous for my holiday and the app I bought gives snow depth. I’m starting to wonder if I need a Plan B. The money for the holiday is gone but I don’t want to go and hate it. Not that I can afford a Plan B. I guess I have time to think about it.

Decafflatteplease · 04/07/2024 16:44

Jumping back in please! Was on here a while ago but lost my frugal mojo and need to find it again. Recognise some names 🙂

Need to tighten our belts over the summer holidays. Savings account is zero as our house needed alot of work recently and we have a few big essentials coming up (new bed, new computer, some more work on the house) and we always spend more on days out etc over the summer even with carer discount etc.

Looking forward to catching up with you all!

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/07/2024 17:56

Hi decaf

don’t forget to vote. And take photo ID

Hi decaf

don’t forget to vote. And take photo ID

Already done 👍 ✅

Chile1978 · 04/07/2024 19:11

Thanks @ rum
Are you doing the walk solo or with a guide? Maybe I'm an optimist but I would definitely go

Welcome back @ decaffe

Frugajobs: didn't buy any drinks out tues eve and tonight so only a few travel expenses, caught up another friend via videocall so no spend there either. Tomorrow plan is to sort online banking for switch account. Have had to spend some money on some other bits and bobs so reduced food spend this month - let's see how we get on.
Otherwise finally a pb win £25!

Decafflatteplease · 04/07/2024 19:54

@Chile1978 whats PB?

£27 refund today as I bought some trousers recently but then found the same ones on vinted so took the original ones back, win win!

Donkeysdontdance · 04/07/2024 22:13

It’s premium bonds. I won 50 this month. Every little helps

Chile1978 · 05/07/2024 06:41

Thanks @Donkeysdontdance - it does indeed. @Decafflatteplease prizes are random but there's the chance to win £1million every month and your money is safe, so it's a secure way to have a bit of fun! Returns aren't guaranteed so with higher interest rates, a savings account might be the better option.
For me, I use it to store my emergency savings so yes I could get more interest but I like the potential thrill 😁

Ended up getting a takeaway on the way home which was not needed. Need to do some shopping and get more quick and easy for the freezer. Big shop planned this weekend.

ememem84 · 05/07/2024 11:20

hello (again).

it' been hectic here. We were in London last weekend. i flew for a meeting at the Tate on Friday (if anyone hasn't yet been to the Singer Sergeant exhibition there please do go it's wonderful but only on until 7 July). took the kiddos to the tower (DS was amazed by it DD wanted to pat a Raven....); then for a jurassic afternoon tea at the Ampersand hotel - special pre end of term treat for all of us! it was absolutely delightful. cost a small fortune, but such a treat. then aquarium on sunday and all flew back on sunday night. whistle stop tour.

dd's birthday party tomorrow - which i'd forgotten about (bad mummy) because it's not actually her birthday until the end of the month, but the place she wanted fo a party is closing so needed to get it in early. :)

just set up a reg saver account with my bank 4.75% so that's a win. will hopefully be able to to throw £100 in a month for 12 months and end up with a wedge to throw at my pension.

how is everyone feeling re the election result? I wasn't allowed to vote (as Jersey is part of the UK when it suits both them and us...) but with the proposed changes to taxes etc we are hopeful that more HNW will bring their business to us here in the island.

RumBananaSundae · 05/07/2024 12:57

With a guide Chile. I started putting together a Plan B but discarded it as it focused on Zermatt (oh dear) and financially I could do with not spending the money. Currently sitting in the go camp.

Good show on the trousers Decaff.

Going to sit on the fence em. Want to say it can’t be worse than the last government but well who knows. Know people who worked under Starmer when he was Director of Public Prosecutions and they rate him though I know the posts are somewhat different. I agree on the Sergeant exhibition - it was excellent.

Spending has been:
£14.38 on groceries. I was doing well until I splashed out on things I didn’t need to eat while watching the election results.
£2.50 in Poundland on odds and ends.
£10 on vitamins from Amazon. It was three for two.
£46 on an M&S gift card for me to buy some underwear. Finally bit the bullet and ordered some this morning. Hope they fit. Have £6 left on the card.

Trying to have an easy day today. Was at a conference yesterday that didn’t help my back. Might take a stroll later. Need to check my checklists for my holiday. Wondering if I should drop my luggage off at the airport the day before.

Nellieinthebarn · 05/07/2024 17:34

We're back from our mini break, £40 on petrol, £200 on accommodation, and an untold huge amount on breakfasts, bought sandwiches, ice creams, pub lunches and various treats.

I will add it up when I've looked at the bank balance, but I am too tired to at the moment.

It was lovely to see family and familiar places, and I am feeling much better for the break.

Chile1978 · 05/07/2024 19:56

@Nellieinthebarn sounds lovely and much needed
@RumBananaSundae trust in the guide- if it's not right to continue I'm sure they will say. Hope you do go.

Bought some new summer pjs as a practical treat to myself.
Usual busy weekend coming up. 3 birthday parties - presents already bought. Hoping to pick up a needed free piece of furniture too but not confirmed. More work to do too 😩, luckily nothing with a deadline but need to get it done.

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/07/2024 07:55

I’m ok with the results. We will see what it brings.

quite a big shop this week £82 Aldi, £24 Iceland, £18 kfc, £33 pets but will get half back from mil, Sainsbury’s this attending about £40

Nellieinthebarn · 06/07/2024 11:21

Did the sums and its just over £100 on food, so the whole four days was a bit over £340. Not too bad really, but the rest of the month is basics only because the whole of the fun and giggles budget for July is gone.

Nellieinthebarn · 06/07/2024 11:25

Oh and best of all we saw the eye consultant, and DHs eyesight has not deteriorated at all in the last year.

Happierwithouthim · 06/07/2024 11:58

That's great news for dh nellie

I've been away at my parents since wed and heading back home today but today is still a day out with dc dsis & bf so I'll count my spends after it

Will be returning some of my shein order that'll be €27.30 back in my account
Electricity bill came in it was €213 for two months which is down on previous two months. My parents had been concerned about theirs but they're happier now because it's on a par with mine, they've a bigger house

Em trip to London sounds lovely

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 06/07/2024 16:57

Hi all, I'm happy with the election result! I'm a socialist at heart and am hopeful this will mean more investment in health, social care and education. I was also happy to hear they've scrapped the abhorrent scheme to send asylum seekers to Rwanda already 👏🏻 God knows how much time and money the Tories had wasted on that awful idea 🙄🤬

I've had my insurance policy payback last week which was lovely, I've put the bulk in savings (around 2k) and then spent some, I took dd into town and got us both new trainers which came to about £110. I got myself some new clothes around £60 and went to dun elm and bought a few bits for the house £80.

What I've realised is that I've been poor for so long that everything I own is either cheap or second (or third) hand so bit by bit I will need to work out a plan to replace.

It's been so lovely having a bit of spare cash, I took my friend for a coffee and brunch this morning £18 which was lovely.

I went to Sainsburys today and spent £120 but that included £40 on a blender (first one I've ever owned!) and £30 ish on bits for my new baby niece. The rest was on food for next week.

Need to reign it in a bit now as I've not actually won the lottery 😉😂

Donkeysdontdance · 06/07/2024 17:49

That’s lovely @Girliefriendlikespuppies you deserve it. Nothing spent today. Mainly as watching the 🎾

Happierwithouthim · 06/07/2024 22:02

Girlie that's great to be able to treat yourself without wondering where to pull the money from

OP posts:
Chile1978 · 07/07/2024 06:54

Great news @Nellieinthebarn DH

@Girliefriendlikespuppies lovely to hear and glad you got to enjoy yourself too along with a hefty chunk into savings

Hectic yesterday and busy again today - out of the house from 7 til 7. 🙃 (yesterday was 8-6)
More spends yesterday for the garden, just over £70. A new parasol which was reduced from £90 and then an extra 10% off so spent £40. So a bit spendy but in a frugal way.
Was good to end the day with the 🎾 and 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 ⚽️! 🥳
Spendy again today as doing the booze and drinks run for the party.

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/07/2024 07:31

Great news girlie. You deserve those treats.

no other spends yesterday nsd in the offing
today

RumBananaSundae · 07/07/2024 10:27

You’re right about trusting the guide Chile. It’s me having no confidence to walk on ice. My new app tells me the snow is clearing so hopefully this week will help with that. Good frugalling on the parasol.

That’s great about your husband’s sight Nellie.

It’s nice to treat yourself without having to think about it Girlie. Enjoy your purchases.

Spending had been about £50 on some holiday odds and ends - including two adaptor/chargers. Can’t believe the price deferential on one of them £10 cheaper in an independent (I think) department store than John Lewis. £1.95 on some chip shop curry sauce from Marks and Spencer and £2.49 on a TGTG bag. I finally caved. It’s my first in six days.

Today might be hefty. I’m meant to be lunching with flakey. Will make the most of a free day in town. Would also like to get a toothbrush case and I need to top up my travel card.

Timetoswitch · 07/07/2024 17:08

I always await your update to see if flakey friends flakes rum 🤣 I assume the friend is good company if they turn up?

Lots of spends here. I give up for now! Some of it is buying stuff for Dmum from her account, so it’s not all my spending.

Hope everyone has had a good weekend.

Timetoswitch · 07/07/2024 17:09

Enjoy your treats girlie
