Sorry about your life events Martha. I hope the horrible is un-horrible soon. Been there with the applying for your job and parent cancer. It’s tough.

Good luck with the interview outcome Time.

Congratulations on the new job Happier. How was/is it moving after so long?

Spending hasn’t been bad but it’s been unnecessary. Yesterday was £5 in Waitrose for something to have with dinner yesterday and today. Today was just under £10. I spent £7.99 on The Economist because of the cover. Then I thought how much and spent the change on a snack.

Had a rubbish day. Made worse by the idiots at Royal Mail who think deliver to Post Office means leave with random person so it gets stolen. Trying to resist the urge to go and buy some milk. I’m considering gold top.

Happierwithouthim · 09/05/2024 19:52

Rum it's going to be lonesome and exciting at the same time. I'll be around for most of this summer and will be settled into new job before the dc go back to school so I think it's working out well.

Being paid monthly will be different but I'll have maintenance and working family payment weekly so I can pay bigger bills out of my salary & do spends out of the other two.

How's divorce progress going?

I'm awaiting a drop of vacious white bodysuit, I've a discount code for 10% off which makes it €81.50 incl shipping. I never spend that much on a top but it's shapewear designed by a larger lady & looks amazing on all influencers that I've seen it on & one was very similar size & shape to me. Bf gave me €50 to treat myself at week & dm gave me money at Christmas for clothes that I haven't spent yet Grin

Great news about the job happier, sounds like it is all working out well.

I didn’t get the job. I strongly suspect it went to their internal applicant who was always going to get the job (they said in interview they hadn’t advertised widely). Reason given for not getting it was quite insulting too 🙄But I was polite and gracious about it, because I am nice.

Anyway, had a bit of a frustrating morning running errands for Dmum. Only managed to complete 2 out of 4 things.

Had a mcchicken sandwich to cheer myself up 😂

Sorry to read that, Time.

A family friend had a recent interview where she wasn't appointed. The feedback from the Head of The Relevant Thing was that although she'd been active in The Relevant Thing activities elsewhere, she hadn't been involved in that niche part of the organisation's activities. She's deaf. She'd participated in activities where people made accommodations for this (captioning technology etc.) but that niche part of the organisation still wasn't making accommodations so she'd never been able to do anything with them…And, no, they didn't challenge her about this in the interview, it wasn't in the job specification and was a post-hoc thing when they were deciding.

I'm telling this story because she used the word "insulting" to describe her feedback and the experience.

Timetoswitch · 10/05/2024 12:46

That is insulting happier

Thing is I can spot blagging feedback a mile off. I do this myself as part of my job 🤣

Happierwithouthim · 10/05/2024 13:21

Sorry to hear that time. Lick your wounds & keep up the search

Ah sorry time. Defo process it and be kind to you tonight.
they sound like twats hack.

Gensola · 10/05/2024 19:56

time so sorry - this kind of thing enrages me.

marthasmum · 10/05/2024 20:23

Sorry to hear that time. Hope something better is round the corner.
Glad to have finished work for the week. DD is back from uni and going out clubbing with some friends, then they are all staying. They all seem lovely so nice to have a houseful. DS2 had his first gcse today. My dad is also out of hospital so going to my parents’ this Sunday. £52 on Tesco delivery, it’s a cheap last week of the pay month shop. I hate online food shopping so it saves me money as I don’t spend long doing it! Happy Friday everyone ❤️

northender · 11/05/2024 07:58

Marthasmum sounds like you're having a tough time , sorry to hear your dad's diagnosis
time pick yourself up and go again, something better is out there for you.
Happier great news on the new job.
So last weekend was a bit frantic with football, Bruce Springsteen & our cricket club beer festival. Ds went to Devon briefly for the footy, dh, dd watched at home. Nerve jangling, but the right result in the end. Dh & dd then went to see Bruuuce in Cardiff (not a frugal weekend but budgeted for). I spent the weekend cooking in the club kitchen & raised lots of money. Haven't felt great this week so have missed the gym & trying to rest in between work .
Managed to miss seeing the northern lights last night which every FB friend seems to have amazing pics of!
Today I need to bake cakes I've promised for church cake sale. I might buy some plants too. Need to pot my tomato plants on & move them to the greenhouse. Staging ordered for the greenhouse £95
Friends coming over for drinks & a catch up tonight
After unexpectedly huge dental costs & car having to be replaced already this year, we are £2.5k over budget so dipping into overdraft regularly. So my aim is to clear that by the end of the year. Not sure we will, but good to have that aim
Have a good sunny weekend everyone!

marthasmum · 11/05/2024 08:06

Oooh Bruce 🤗🤩😍

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/05/2024 08:22

I know I’m so upset at not seeing the northern lights but also needed sleeps as have been off this week

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/05/2024 16:26

Really spendy day but first very spendy day in ages 😬

£4 parking
£16 lunch for dd and I
£56 Superdrug various bits for dd and I
£22 Primark new summer pjs and a t.shirt for me
£47 New Look on a new dress for me for my friends sons wedding next wend and new sunglasses
£18 sandals for dd to wear to the above wedding
£12 pizza and snacks for watching Eurovision tonight!

In frugal news I did well at the community fridge this morning as the co op had just dropped a load of food off! I got cherry toms, leeks, potatoes and mushrooms so will have a think how to use them up.

I've just watched the dog pick up a stick, chew a bit off and swallow it so hoping that's not an expensive vet drip 🤦‍♀️

RumBananaSundae · 11/05/2024 18:53

I’m not sure Happier. I’m trying to get my thoughts straightened in my head and decide on a few things and will speak to my solicitor in the next week or so.

Sorry about the job Time. Job hunting is brutal. And people can be arses.

Fingers crossed for the dog Girlie.

Spending has been £12.50 yesterday on stamps and about £70 replacing my stolen parcel. Today has been £6.93 on milk, envelopes and a TGTG bag and 130€ on a pass for my holiday in the summer. Glad to have that crossed off the list.

I’ve seen some trainers I like so I’m trying to forget about them. A cardigan has also caught my eye. There’s currently £60 off so I’m trying to pretend I’ve not seen it as I don’t need it. Am trying to wind down watching silly television. Might try and see the northern lights later as I completely forgot yesterday/this morning.

Timetoswitch · 12/05/2024 07:48

Have you been unwell life? Hope you feel better soon if so.

We missed the Northern lights too. DH and I not sleeping well atm, but typically were asleep at this point.

Thanks for all the job commiserations.

Spends this weekend were paint, new blind and curtains for DD1s room. £126. Now we just need to empty the room to decorate. Might take a while.

northender · 12/05/2024 08:19

Had a good day in the garden yesterday. Spent £18 on a new shrub & some seeds. But had managed to locate the tub with our existing seed stocks in so only bought seeds we needed.
£58 in Lidl which included £10 on compost & £7 😯 on olive oil.
Frugal fail was £25 on food & drink at the cricket club. The food wasn't planned, but we caught up with friends there unexpectedly so it was worth it. Then drinks at home with other friends later, so all in all a really good day.
Today's plan is for more gardening, then ds is playing cricket so we'll go & watch for a bit. Also need to meal plan for the week & get any food shopping needed .

Happierwithouthim · 12/05/2024 10:45

North on a budgeting Facebook group I'm on there was a post about using an oil sprayer with your olive oil reducing the usage of it to a third.

Bought a pampering gift for a friend whose husband is terminally ill got discount code to work so €18
Visited my late boyfriend's dm €5.50 on cream buns

€49 on something that's meant to cut your electricity usage Confused I've extra put away compared to what's due on my electricity bill so used that money

Dunnes click & collect later €59 ish €5.90 will be reimbursed by work

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 12/05/2024 11:23

I refuse to buy olive oil any more, it's ludicrously expensive, I've substituted it for sunflower oil and honestly haven't noticed a difference at all (other than being much cheaper!)

RumBananaSundae · 12/05/2024 18:34

I missed them again too Time. I went out a few times but the sky looked the same.

Today’s spending has been about £11 on dinner. I couldn’t decide what I wanted so there’s left overs for about three days.

Found the trainers I liked on eBay. They were listed as BNWOT (or box) and have a blemish/scuff but decided they were worth a punt as they were more than £200 cheaper than new. Am still resisting the cardigan.

Happierwithouthim · 12/05/2024 19:00

Home made pulled pork fries. I wasn't impressed with local chipper last time, I think the chips were cooked a second time to reuse them. This is better for my waistline & my pocket!

I keep a bottle of sunflower oil & rapeseed oil on the go

Rum what price are the trainers new? Shock
