Smart meter

Are they ok to have in a large building of flats. 4 flats on each floor, 8 floors.
Electric meters are on each floor but in the communal area. Not in the actual flat.

At our previous blocks of flats the directors said we couldn't have them as they won't be accurate and will be picking up all sorts from everyone else.

Energy company keep trying to get us to have one but that info from the previous flat has kind of stuck.

Thoughts?

I live in a large block of similar set up with meters - my electric company keeps ringing and writing and lately offering me prize draw entries to get a smart meter,
I did arrange an appointment but the engineer said that the meter box &electric set up was too old and as I rent, my landlord would have to get consent from the building management, even if they could find a suitable one to fit - wasn't worth the bother tbh also we are on economy 7 so I don't think it would work accurately no one could give me accurate answer on this.

I don't think they'll pick up info from other meters. After all, the information from all the meters goes 'somewhere' and it doesn't get confused with other houses.

Plus they work in similar ways to mobile phones, transmitting and receiving radio signals, and messages, data etc gets to the right phone, so there's no reason to think that smart meter readings would get mixed up just because there's a few more of them concentrated in one area.
