Holy crap car insurance

I know, I know, inflation, second hand cars, new laws treating customers equally, bla bla, but what the actual fuck?! No claims, no points etc etc, and our insurance has gone up by over 70% from £800 a year tor 2 cars to £1400. Done some quick quotes on comparison sites and whilst I can get it down to about £1050 that's with companies I've never heard of, one only has 4 defacto stars and the excess is £600.

It's just utterly gutting, so sick of it all!!

I managed to reduce mine from £650 to £450 by agreeing to have tracker app.

what do you drive? that before price is extortionate in the first place. Thats more than I paid as a new driver at 18 for third party only.

Not sure if this will help you Op with timings but Martin Lewis had a recent story about car insurance
He did a few slides about getting the timing right

@LittleMrsPretty one is a bog standard focus (was £550 on the renewal but can get for £350 moving, can't remember what it was last year, probably £300-ish) the other car has a big engine and is worth more so does cost more, but has been a massive jump this year.

@ohyesohyesoh thank you, I will take a look, the renewal only came today so I think we are beyond the sweet spot.

We have 2 cars, insurance renewal went up 51% from last year to just over £1200. We have shopped around and, like you, discovered we can get cheaper quotes from companies we have never heard of. We phoned our current insurance and told them the renewal was too high and once we told them about the other quotes they took £165 off making them the cheapest quote we've had. So, it's worth phoning and asking for a better renewal, we're still paying 30% more than last year though
