Octoplus Energy Saving Sessions

Octoplus have added a new section to their app - Octoplus to track points earned during the energy saving sessions which they Han last year.

Who is signing up? 500 points for joining. Last year the thread proved quite popular. I’ve noticed they have a what’s app group that you can sign up to as well to get notification of the short notice sessions.

I managed to earn around £100 credit over the whole winter period last year. There’s also a spin the wheel section on the website I’ve just had two spins and won 800 extra points and I never usually win anything on that wheel.

There's also a Whatsapp 'group' where you can get notifications of the savings sessions and some other offers like discounted electricity.

It's not a chat group so won't be filled with nonsense from people who don't understand how direct debits work, all it's is for Octopus to send alerts about upcoming sessions.

You're doing a lot better than me @Filterphobia (and I missed that you'd said about the Whatsapp group).

I've just had 4 spins (extra due to smart meters) and won 4 x 8 points, taking my total points to just over a tenner's worth, despite doing all the savings sessions last winter, including some of them religiously (if it was only me at home, I'd turn everything off including the fridge and be on the laptop on the battery in the dark or read my kindle in bed for an hour).

That got me £10, but you made £100???

I seem to remember reading somewhere with Octopus that you got more points if there was a greater difference between what you were using earlier in the day to what you used when switching everything off.
We tried it and used the washing machine and other gadgets before the golden hour. The difference although not massive was larger and therefore meant more points. But we have solar panels too so have to weigh this up against free electric if the weather is good and sunny!! But if it means changing the day you do the washing for example then it's not a great chore to change your routine.

I think we are quite high users, two pre teens who live to game and watch TV in their bedrooms. I was turning everything off, all sat in one room with one lamp on and Wi-Fi off but boys hotspot their iPads off my phone as I have unlimited data usage. It was a challenge to see how much we could save. I think I was a bit OTT with it really!

I just did 4 spins winning 8 points eachime. I converted them into cash there and then….worth 4p off my bill!

Troubledwords · 06/11/2023 09:14

My spins have all been 8pts.

I've signed up to the WhatsApp, so hopefully I'll get a few sessions this winter.

KievLoverTwo · 08/11/2023 01:58

I don’t want to install WhatsApp:(

Is that really the only way to get the shorter notifications this year?

PainPeas · 05/12/2023 18:31

I know this thread is a month on now but anyone still doing? Currently sitting in the dark with most things off to see if it's worth bothering!

Opted in on the 1st December which is still calculating so I guess that's a write off and can see I've "opted in" on the page but it's not showing on the chart at all.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 05/12/2023 19:22

Yep, we’ve done four in the last two weeks. WFH, so when it comes time to power down we turn off almost everything and sit in candlelight reading kindles (or in my case today sat bundled in a blanket and had a nap for an hour!)

shellyleppard · 05/12/2023 19:26

I've signed up this year however my points from the last two sessions have vanished???? Yesterday it said it was still calculating.... today they have gone!!! Phoned them up and they said its a new system ??? And they are having a few teething problems 🤔🤔

forgotmyusername1 · 08/12/2023 07:10

I am doing them. Got £23 for the two main sessions. Up about £30 overall.

shellyleppard · 08/12/2023 10:30

It does seem to take absolutely ages to show the points.... don't give up. Ita taken 8 days fo mine to show up

Rainbow1901 · 08/12/2023 12:06

I can't even take part at the moment as there is an issue with the smart meter which can't be sorted until January!! When I complained they are giving me 800 Octopoints for each missed session - so I am at least getting something.

Wafflefudge · 18/08/2024 13:34

Anyone had the notification for free energy sessions. Not sure what to use during the session to make the most of it.
They seem to always be in middle of the day which makes sense but as we have solar panels it's hard to use much at that time of day. Think I'm going to have used about 30p.

Ilikewinter · 18/08/2024 13:43

Yeah I have, the one in the week was no use because we were all at work .... and I forgot about today's until now !!! I guess the best use is washing machine/ tumble dryer but I did the washing yesterday and dried it all on the line 🤣

Wafflefudge · 18/08/2024 14:16

Yeah I put washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher on and a few devices on charge and used 25p over the hour because of the solar panels. Never mind but really useful otherwise I'm sure.
At least you don't have to opt in to each session and if you make savings great and if you don't you don't.

Rainbow1901 · 18/08/2024 16:07

Managed half an hour - so will see what that brings! 😉

gingercat02 · 18/08/2024 16:20

I had the washer and dryer on, plugged my car in, and charged all the phones

trader21c · 18/08/2024 16:32

I hoovered, washing machine and dish washer - should have baked my banana cake then!!!
