i am in council association housing I want to start working part time self employed I doubt I would earn more than a few hundred a month from it. But would my rent increase if I did this

Your rent will stay the same. However, if it's presently paid in full by benefits then the help you get may be less.

Your rent is set by the council and nothing to do with Universal credit. Your Uc rent element would stay the same but your overall UC amount may be less if you start working because you may have some deductions for your earnings. It would depend if you have a work allowance ( you will have this if you have kids on your claim or LCW/ LCWRA ). If you do have a work allowance then some of your earnings will be disregarded. You will be better off working even if you do lose a bit of UC as you have your wages as well.
