Building / Contents renewal came through this morning and surprise, surprise it's gone up. Normally if the price increase is just a few quid I let it go, only when premiums jump significantly does it prompt me into action. Never look forward to these situations, wait on the phone for 30+ minutes listening to a recorded message about how valued a customer I am only to then speak to someone who has lost the will to live.
Today however was a little different. Price jump was caused by underwriters asking for more information which at the time was unavailable. These were fairly benign questions such as do we own pets, children under 18 at property, rough date the property was built and a few others. Upon answering these the policy cost was reduced by not only the increase but a slight saving on last years price.
It appears they assume the 'worst case scenario' to each of the unknowns but do not see fit to contact you due to the relative trivial nature of the questions.
Worth the effort if like me you haven't contacted your provider in a few years.
