Car insuramce-how much???

I've come to the end of a lease with my car. I had made the decision to giveth car back and have one car. (Me and DH have a car each). But when I went to the dealership they told me it would be the same cost to get a brand new car. So I agreed. However I have been unable to get any car insurance. I've been quoted over a 1000£!!!

I only had a small car. 3 door and was paying £25 per month. I'm shocked by how much the insurance is
I was meant to pick up the car today
But I've emailed the dealership and asked them to cancel the sale and finance under the 14 day cooling off period as how can I drive a car if I can't afford the insurance???

Has anyone else experienced this?

Absolutely, in the last couple of years.
Car insurance has gone through the roof (along with everything else!). I had the best luck using all the tricks in the book to get it down. (I've got a dashcam now, that i didn't want, i've really given thought to my mileage, the wretched thing occupies the garage now, etc).

Might i ask which the car was? Some newer cars are easier to steal (the security around keyless entry can be a bit hit and miss!), which negates the fact that their otherwise safe/inexpensive etc.

When you say "I have been unable to get any car insurance" do you mean companies are refusing to insure you, or they are offering insurance but at too high a price?

Are you checking multiple companies, doing price comparison etc? When I've compared the prices vary hugely between insurers, from e.g. £200 to £1500, seemingly for no reason!

I've just renewed my car insurance and it cost me €475 fully comp, with bonus protection for a Peugeot 5008 with DH as naked driver. I'm mid thirties if that makes any difference. Have you shopped around? £1k is more what you will pay for an 18-20 year old just starting to drive. We paid over €1400 (€140/month) in 2008 for car insurance as new drivers on a Peugeot 208.

DH is fully clothed when driving 🤣

Naked driver 😂😂

I'm having trouble getting a decent quote and I'm 56, 11 years NCB with a 10 year old Peugeot. Previously paid £670 and renewal came in over 1k.Comparisons can only get it down to £850 and that's using one of those telematic boxes. I really don't understand why it's so high. I feel I'm being priced off the road.

I mean, depending on all sorts of things, £1K isn't in the category of "I can't get insurance". My dc were quote MUCH higher than that when they first started driving.

As others have said, different companies quote wildly different prices for no apparent reason, when you shop around. It takes time, but it well worth it.
What other amounts were you quoted ?
