Because of COL?
I’m opting for more park trips rather than days out over the summer hols.

Never have roast beef or pork on Sundays it's chicken always

Cutting out everything apart from absolute essentials. No day trips. Minimal car use. No school shoes, trainers will do. No midweek shop for bits I forgot. If we run out of milk or bread we just have to manage. Was never well off so alot if the things others have cut are things we happily did without anyway. COL is really making us struggle.

The worst thing about being skint is all the savings you miss out on. I used to take advantage of sales to buy my kids clothing for the next year but now I’ll be faced with buying full price items next year because I just can’t afford the bargains now.

Holly03 · 15/09/2023 14:25

Shopping at the big supermarkets. I now only go to farmfoods and herons. Treats have been cut down and also our weekly McDonalds breakfast has been stopped for home made. The kids said the hash browns were too greasy anyways. Smoking, I smoked far too much and it's such a luxury right now. It's by far the hardest thing I've done so far.

Try looking on Vinted, I completely kitted our 13 year old boy for the summer with brand named t-shirts and shorts (Adidas, Nike, Champion etc) and have previously bought great joggers, sweatshirts and hoodies previously and almost new Nike black trainers for PE at school 😊For about a third of the price of new I bought several pairs of Nike Air Trainers for both 13 year old and husband who was REALLY chuffed with his! 😇I also always check out our local Facebook Marketplace and have picked up some good items there...I have 2 drawers full of larger sized clothing for next year and will NEVER buy new again unless I absolutely have to! Not only does it save shed loads of money but it's good for the environment as it recycles and reuses clothes which otherwise might go into landfill! 😥

No longer have a takeaway coffee 3-5 times a week. Limited to once per month and saves us £100 - £170 per month!!! Jeeze!

weve also stopped buying as many branded foods which saves us a good £80 - £120 a month

I take lunch to work which is another £60 or so saved a month

really adds up

Nellieinthebarn · 23/09/2023 11:58

The worst thing is not being able to invest now for longer term savings. My sofas have been discontinued, and I really want to get another set of covers before they disappear forever. This would make the existing sofas last much longer, but I just cannot afford to get them. It's a choice of christmas or sofa covers, and it's not fair to ask everyone to forgo christmas treats.

piesforever · 15/10/2023 23:10

Cleaner £130pm, dog walker £22 per week, DS sport class £35 pm plus competitions (still does other sport), holiday saving £400 pm, hubby gym £40 pm, Xmas/bdays £100 pm, also stopped buying meat pretty much. Charitable donations sadly reduced. Purely cost of living, incomes haven't reduced 😭😭😭

piesforever · 15/10/2023 23:11

Oh yeah and all clothes from Vinted and Marketplace now. And dinners at school.

KnickerlessParsons · 28/07/2023 23:03

Eating meat.

I'm not vegetarian, but have pretty much given up meat. I'll eat it in a restaurant if the veg choices are pretty dire (they usually are - I feel sorry for proper vegetarians), but I don't buy it for the household. It took a while before anyone noticed!

Same, reduced our food bill by 30% omg!!

catskittens · 18/10/2023 18:16

Dumped all cereal for overnight oats . It was a UPF thing but has made a decent reduction to the shopping bill ..

And so much healthier!

DH I feel complains about shopping bill price tag but then buys cereal, crackers, wine!!! Non essentials!

defi · 18/10/2023 20:22

No more false nails, botox, fillers. No weekly takeaway. Cancelled sons beavers and gymnastics. No pole and aerial hoop lessons for me. Didn't realise how much had changed until I wrote it down.

dothehokeycokey · 19/10/2023 19:47

Stopped take away

Stopped so many coffees out now

Eating out down to a brewers fayre carvery one Sunday a month

Stopped having lashes done

Xmas will be scaled bak again this year.

No family holiday this year or weekends away but luckily the dc have had a separate school residential each

Netflix and now tv on a basic package now.

Not been to a cinema for a year or so.

dutysuite · 20/10/2023 14:23

Cut down on having my hair done at the salon, I've had darker colours put in my hair as the cost of highlights just became too much

Heinz - I really like M&S beans
Branded cereal, the boxes have strunk
I no longer buy shampoo from the supermarket or from places like boots, the bottles have shrunk and I need a lot to get through my hair.
Walkers crisps
Takeaways, we used to eat out at least once a week and we always had a takeaway most weekends. I got fed up of the small portions and increased prices so I do fakeaways.
Branded washing detergent - but in the process have found own brands much better for my son's eczema.

amberwoods · 20/10/2023 16:35

It's been a difficult past couple of months!

I must try the overnight oats. We spend a lot on breakfast pastries. I've given up Now TV and Netflix subscription, but we use a relative's subscription. No takeaways.

I can't cancel DC extracurricular classes as it's something one of them wants to do as a career. But a relative is kindly paying.

I'm very resourceful with my exercise classes and manage lots of free trials at the moment and exercise from home (and was bought a year subscription to do a few classes a month) but I won't revive my nice gym membership until things are on a more even keel, that is not likely to be for a long while.

amberwoods · 20/10/2023 16:36

Christmas will have to be minimal here too this year.

MatthewsMumFromTikTok · 20/10/2023 16:37

Pin actually looking forward to a further scaled down Christmas. Less pressure

MatthewsMumFromTikTok · 20/10/2023 16:38

*i'm

amberwoods · 20/10/2023 16:39

I know what you mean @MatthewsMumFromTikTok I think it will be less pressure in a way.
