School uniform rules

Please could someone clarify for me the new uniform rules?

I know a while ago there was new law passed regarding uniforms and schools had to change rules on logo’d school wear.

Pleased could anyone explain?

Our school still stipulate logo’d everything, it’s very expensive and very annoying when they don’t use a lot of it!!

There was no change to the law.

I don't think it was ever law.

It is guidelines which state that uniform should not be single-supplier and should be affordable.

No government, despite sometimes getting on its soapbox about this, has ever brought in any form of monitoring of compliance, let alone sanctions for those who ignore the guidelines

@meditrina thank you!

So annoying. Our even have to have logo’d socks, which they have never worn (pe). They are checked every Monday to make sure they all have the correct uniform. Detention for any child that doesn’t

Basically schools were told they had to put in place a scheme to access 2nd hand uniform but it was up to the school how they do it. Our local comp basically says one of the local charity shops stocks 2nd hand uniform - that's it their obligation complete.

@ArnoldBee what a disgrace!!

it really bugs me. I have twins, it is so expensive

Complain about it!! If that's true it's outrageous. Get other parents on board. Flag it up with the school head and chair of governors.

If the majority of the parents stick together - you all buy supermarket uniform. What are the school gonna do?! Realise it's a daft rule which penalises those who are struggling financially.

I did ring a few months ago, explained that a high school in our neighbouring town had sent an email to all parents. They advised going forward they understand uniform costs are very expensive, the only logo’d uniform would be the blazer. They even gave every pupil a new tie free of charge!

I was advised the head would get back to me, I never received a response.

How do I address the governors? That is a good idea

Email the school and ask for a copy of the complaints policy. It will tell you how to contact the governors (or their email address may be on the website).

It is ridiculous at any time, but especially when there is a cost of living crisis, for schools to have expensive school uniform requirements.
