Hi has anyone claimed UC during unpaid (last three months) of maternity leave? Thank you.

UC calculates what you need to live on for adults, kids, rent etc. It then knocks off other benefits, earnings after taper etc.

If you're living as a couple it's a joint claim/joint income,

If you're on ML but no SMP etc then it sees no income for Mum.

In other words yes, you can claim.

You can claim if your dh's income does not mean that you won't qualify. It depends on rent, your ages etc.

Obvs, but you need to met other conditions regarding capital, right to reside in UK and not full time student too.

Thank you for your replies, DH had a heart attack recently and is having to take sick leave, he's also not well enough for me to return to work (I work weekends and nights) I was planning to return after nine months maternity leave however because of our current situation I'm looking at extending mat leave for 4 months (will use my AL for one month) by then he should feel well enough to look after the children so I can return to my shift work and also his own job. So I was only looking for UC support until then just to get us through this tough time.
I will look at making a joint claim. Thank you again.
