Fanks

BigSkies2022 · 04/07/2023 15:47

THanks for the thread, need. Happy Independence Day, all. Gosh, July already.

£50 in ALDI and there was a punch-up! I mean I didn't see the punches thrown, but I (and everyone else as far as Bromley, I should think) heard the aftermath and counter-accusations. The parties were being 'held' separately while they waited for the police to arrive. And the floor managers even opened up extra tills to clear the area. Which was a bit disappointing because we wuz all agog.

Nigel Slater providing tonight's roast veg dinner, plus an apricot crumble.

Weather minging but Ddog pawing at me to go out so waterproofs it is.

needastrongoneagain · 04/07/2023 17:18

I'm loving the idea of altercations in Aldi!!

We are having veggie lasagna, using the vat of fresh tomato sauce I made yesterday. Apricot crumble sounds lovely.

Spends

£12 Adblue (as posted above)
£40 fuel

We've got some big expenses coming up to do with DH's treatment, so I'm planning on being as sensible as I can be in the interim.

Punch up in Aldi! 😜

Thanks for the new Fred, great title.

89p on carrots as had none for DDs food tech lesson. None in coop so went to corner shop for a bag of expensive, dad looking carrots. Still working (end of academic year v busy) at least I can't spend money.

kessiebird · 04/07/2023 21:06

*sad

Alfiemoon1 · 04/07/2023 22:59

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/07/2023 06:53

NSD planned today, currently at gym then wfh

northender · 05/07/2023 07:43

Having a lovely relaxing time in Brittany. Mixed weather but still managing to make the most of it.
DH got his job app done & submitted. Was a good team effort so crossing fingers now. It would make a massive difference to us with DD off to uni, hopefully.
Have managed to reduce costs massively compared with last week in Devon.
DS is with his mates in Kavos, having a good time now but their minibus taxi to the airport had quite a bad crash en route so there are a lot of cuts, bruises and black eyes. DS was asleep with seatbelt on so bashed his head on the seat in front but otherwise okay. DD is doing ok interrailing & is with my friend in Switzerland for a week now.

CurlsandCurves · 05/07/2023 08:34

Thanks for the new thread @needastrongoneagain

@BigSkies2022 ooh, drama in Aldi!

@Alfiemoon1 lovely to see you back, although sorry to hear things haven’t been great for you.

An unplanned spend yesterday, a pair of gorgeous mustard Saltwater sandals for £55. I’ve heard people raving about them, and when we’ve had them in our sale at work they’ve flown out. But I’ve never tried them myself. So lovely and comfy, and I definitely needed them as being on my feet all day my other sandals were getting worn very quickly.

Thestartofsomethinggood · 05/07/2023 08:46

Joining. Some unexpected building work means £10000 to be repaid in next 12 months. Ouch

Taytocrisps · 05/07/2023 12:08

Thanks for the new thread need.

I am the proud(?) owner of a will. I am also poorer by the sum of €184.50 owing to said will. I'm relieved it's done.

BigSkies2022 · 05/07/2023 12:57

north that's alarming news from Kavos. I'm glad your DS and friends are broadly unharmed. Having undertaken some pretty ricketty and risky journeys in the past, without blinking an eye, I am now firmly in the scaredy-cat camp when it comes to DS' own forays into the world. I know this is irrational and I can't control anything, anyway.

£55 this morning on Ddog's food. And a 'phone call to E.On to get them to switch my DD back to what we agreed last week when I took out their new fixed tariff. They tried to raise it by £40 a month and thought I somehow wouldn't notice...as if!

Tomato and coconut curry with rice tonight.

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/07/2023 13:49

One is a thread that continues from the no spend January
This had been running for more years than I care to count as a set of threads

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/07/2023 13:50

Sorry that was to @Neverinamonthofsundays . The reply didn't work

RumBananaSundae · 05/07/2023 18:00

Thank you for Fred Need. What plans do you have for the garden Big? Goodness me for Aldi. Nothing like that ever happens in mine. Alfie sorry things have not been going well. I hope they look up soon. Yay to Brittany North. Sorry about your son’s accident. Glad he is (overall) OK.

Spending has been £5 in Lidl and £4.25 on a present and postage for a friend on Monday. Yesterday was £15 on two slices of (not very nice)cake and today about £90 on a Eurostar ticket for an exhibition in Paris later in the year.

No word from the council about the most recent bill they sent. Will have to chase them.

Thestartofsomethinggood · 05/07/2023 20:12

£32 pet food and £17 picnic stuff for Friday and Saturday

northender · 05/07/2023 20:21

somethinggood welcome. £10k is a lot but we can help keep you focused!

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/07/2023 21:13

10k ouch indeed

Pleased DS is ok North

£9 on a toastie at the forest. Robbin' bastards. Dh and DS went mountain biking as DS off with strike. £5 for a toasted teacake!! I've told then to take a ducking pic nic next time. Free parking though thigh usually£££ add well

marthasmum · 05/07/2023 21:25

big we also had a near punch up in our Aldi recently! The gentleman in question has form for it apparently.
how scary north
and very glad he is ok. DD and DS1 both away on separate trips this week (though only in UK) and I’ve been feeling surprisingly bereft with a near empty house.
Big changes afoot at my work that are unsettling us all really. Some upset about it today, hopefully getting resolved but more resolving to do tomorrow. I couldn’t sleep well last night so hoping for better tonight.
having fairly low spend days but about to do big holiday spends. I’ve opened a chase account as recommended by Martin Lewis for spending abroad - hoping now it will arrive in time for the holiday next Fri.
My Costco card is about to run out and I’m debating whether another one is worth it (£33 a year). I only get a few things there really but with a family of 5 I’m wedded to their giant packs of loo roll!

BigSkies2022 · 06/07/2023 09:32

Hello all. Hope workplace rumbles settle down satisfactorily, martha. Food while out and about can really drain the old wallet, can't it? (thinking cake and toasties here). I consider even park cafe food as a huge treat these days, to be indulged in very, very occasionally.

That said, I did splurge yesterday on what might be a frugal win or frugal fail. I saw a Ganni seersucker checked dress online earlier in the season, but at £240 it was a bit of a wincing no from me. However, I stumbled across it yesterday at £90, so I've ordered it. If it is what I think, it will be one of those perfect, cotton, classic dresses you can just pull on and feel fab in. I picture myself walking along the sands at Dinard in it.

Loving your jaunts to Paris for exhibitions, Rum. What are you going to see? The garden plans (DH ordered corten edging and paving slabs last night) include building a seating area, moving/creating a brick path, putting in corten edging and raised beds. And that's probably the limit of what we can manage to do ourselves this year. There's some more complicated work but we'll save up and get a builder for that next year.

Roofing fella should be with us next week. £850, all in. Pleasantly surprised, but there will be some replastering and decorating inside, so the job's not complete yet. And we won't know for another year or so if we've solved the right problem. The joys of house maintenance. I love our house, and have enjoyed finding our taste and learning new skills over the past 25 years or so of DIY in this and other properties. But I don't think I want to spend our sixties and seventies doing this stuff, so the next property will need to be more...I dunno. Modern? Aluminium windows, no fireplaces, underfloor heating, porcelain flooring.

I have a yen for a big pot of dahl, but suspect DH will look gloomy if that's dinner. So will pick up some eggs and make a summery frittata (there weren't any in Aldi again, wonder if that's what sparked the punch-up?? Shouldn't laugh) with asparagus and peas and stuff.

Colliewobbler23 · 06/07/2023 09:39

Hello friends! <waves>
I'm really struggling with spending at the moment ☹️ you'd think over 10 years I'd make some financial progress.... but no, thanks to the COL we are exactly where we were in 2013 when I first joined this thread!

Lovely to see familiar names 💙

LSD. Another summer school thingy. This time it's cake day! So £1 donation and I'll probably spend some on cakes later.

Just checked the bank account and it's much lower than expected. Shocking considering its only 6 days since pay day. I'm tempted to get a refund from my gas account which has £120 in credit.

It's windy and cold here in Cornwall. But the heating has been off for ages and shall remain off until Autumn.

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/07/2023 17:18

Hey Collie welcome back. Sorry things are still tough
