Frozen chips… £4?!!

Usually I make my own but today since it’s been a scorcher I thought I’d pick up some frozen ones from the shops, stopped in my tracks though £3.70 a bag?!!

Yep all the reliable cheap open brand freezer food has gone up 😭

There is also a potato shortage due to weather conditions earlier this year.

I am dismayed ! Honestly it’s a bit of potato , I prefer home made anyway but sometimes it just consumes all your time and energy

I seem to be able to find lots of loose maris piper potatoes but maybe they’re recently harvested

It’ll be even more expensive next year as this year’s potatoes also went in late as it was such a wet spring😬….

I buy them frozen (albert bartlett ones) as DH loves chips but I'm diabetic and have to stay well away. I buy him a bag and the grandkids sometimes ask for them but a bag lasts 2/3 weeks so it's cheaper and less hassle for me to get them.

Spuds don't seem to last 5 minutes in the fridge these days. I miss the days of buying sacks of unwashed ones that lasted the winter in the garage.

At this time of year they are the very last of last year's crop. (which is why they don't keep) The new ones appear in late July.

Potatoes are very expensive, a chip shop near us has had to put a temporary increase of 50p on a portion of chips, they are paying £25 a sack for potatoes. They hope to reduce again when the new crop comes in.

Waitrose essential are only £1.80 which I think is reasonable. I do prefer the Albert Bartlett but they are silly money.

most of them now have stuff on them as well.... often sugar(dextrose) we have allergies in the family so need the plain potato + oil only .... and think they've gone up even more...

Or we make wedges from Baku g potatoes. I got two bags reduced to 45p each from M and S and we've had several meals out of them so far!

They really have! We're eating more home made sweet potato chips, skin on, dead easy and really nice
