Low spend / no spend / frugal June

Sorry if there is already a thread, but I've been planning to do a no / low spend June so thought I'd start a thread for anyone else who wants to do the same.

I've already failed today though 🙄😂

I've got a hideous stomach bug and had to cancel a cinema trip today (which had already been paid for). So I've let the kids buy a movie on YouTube to make up for it, which has cost me an unbelievable £16.99 😩.

Hope that's it for today and tomorrow though. We have groceries in and I don't need petrol till maybe Sunday.

Absolutely no reason for me to be near a shop today (although most days this is the case and I find myself in them anyway ffs) so today is not only to be a no spend day it is day one on weaning myself off going to the shops to begin with! I have a grocery shopping addiction. It is mildly disturbing how much I love to pop to a shop.

Anywho working from home today so just to decide what to take out of the freezer to cook. I have a choice of mince, chicken, steaks or lamb shank in there...
Might have a look at what veg is about to die before a decision is made.

IWonderWhereThatDishDidGo · 06/06/2023 12:22

Made a salad for work today using what was already in my fridge. But I also put £15 of petrol in my car and will need to pay for parking later too. DH has got £40-ish of groceries today from Morrisons. Should last till weekend though...maybe. Need to resist the top up shops!

@TwoManyKids I hate it when an unexpected bill or direct debit comes in and sweeps away my (sometimes tiny) buffer for the month. I hope that it hasn't thrown things off too far for your goals.

Spent £115 on train tickets to London next week (necessary trip, budgeted for) and also about £30 on a top-up of veg, lunch snacks etc. But we had managed until today by eating slightly random stuff from the fridge / freezer / cupboards. With prices so high I'm trying really hard to avoid food waste. 🙃

Hoping for a NSD on Thursday as I have another London trip related expense tomorrow afternoon. Good luck everyone.

Aiming for a NSD today. Should be doable! Although I've just realised I have no idea what to make for dinner. Might involve something that cooks from frozen...

Hello. Nsd for me yesterday finally. Today need to buy some acetone and some groceries so low spend day of £2.30. Have relatives coming down to visit this weekend so trying to think of low cost activities maybe a trip to beach or a picnic out.

Spent £28 for passport photos and £6 for charity shop t-shirts for ds, who has recently outgrown all of his old ones and only had 3 left that fit!

Tonight is burgers and leftover chips I think. Or possibly a burger and noodles for ds, who doesn't seem to like much else at the moment. Tomorrow DH can do some proper cooking.

thereallybigsteelcorporation · 07/06/2023 20:38

Placemarking. Penny pinching, using up whatever is in the fridge/freezer/larder. Ran out of my no.7 face moisturiser (£25) so I've brought aldi own £3.50. Let's see what it's like. No way was I going to pay out £25 for face cream this month. Friends are now unexpectedly dropping over tomorrow for dinner. Whereas it will be great to see them, it means I've had to go to the shop to get dinner (£12) and I had vowed not to go to the shop at all this week as I had a large food delivery last Sunday. Not drinking too save cash/spending. Friends will bring a bottle tomorrow. We've purposely not made plans to see other friends this month as they would want to go out and it would cost £££.

thereallybigsteelcorporation · 07/06/2023 20:40

I'm also returning any recent amazon purchases which have ended up not being needed/ used. Only small value items but it all adds up

thereallybigsteelcorporation · 07/06/2023 20:56

I need to buy x2 fathers day gifts & cards this month and spend around £30 on a birthday gift 😬

Thighdentitycrisis · 07/06/2023 22:48

Tuesday was a NSD and hopefully tomorrow will be too.

Today I spent £3.40 on snacks out and £3.50 on bus fare to get to my community choir which was worth it!

I’m remembering in lockdown when I was keeping busy at home with little DIY jobs and wondering if that will keep me busy and spending down

Can I join you all? Really feeling the pinch now, and have an unplanned (and long term) increase in car journeys to start paying for…I think it’s going to cost me £200 a month extra in diesel which I’ve got to find somehow aargh. Panic won’t help, being pro-active will. I hope.
Today I have to buy stuff for lunchboxes for kids, but that’s it. Lentil Soup and homemade oatcakes for dinner. I’ve started putting a jug of iced water in the fridge first thing in the morning, try and reduce the cost of drinks for us all. And dog is on cheapest food I can get. We live very rurally, it’s all much more expensive.

TwoManyKids · 08/06/2023 07:05

Decided to double down on having no money and treated us all to cakes from Greggs. Really need to sort it out. Now OD and 10 days to go

Neverinamonthofsundays · 08/06/2023 08:15

I have breakfasts and lunches sorted and ready in tubs on the table for everyone this morning. I am dropping the teens off at my mums for the day as I have a heavy day in the office but I felt a bit 'tik tok' mom this morning with all the little snack packs and things. The ONLY reason I am prepping for them is cos I want to feel the achievement as using up what we have instead of any of us popping to a shop. No doubt of course my mum will get them ice creams and things today but it is not money coming out of my pocket!
Dinner is already a plan and all foods are in for that too.

thereallybigsteelcorporation · 08/06/2023 08:47

Omg just realised it's 3 weeks tomorrow till pay day. For some reason I had 2 weeks in mind. GULP. No takeaways, fast food, drinking (unless a friend brings a bottle to me!), nights out. Raiding the medical cupboard for last years left over hay-fever tablets to see us through for this month. Only paying for groceries (limited) bills & diesel, fathers day & birthday gift for a relative

I am thinking good old tuna pasta salad for dinner this evening. Cheap, filling, I do not need to go out and buy anything and we all eat some variation of it with a salad to look at cos it will be only me that eats it naturally 🙄
No need to go to the shop therefore no need to spend anything again today. Happy enough with that.

xogossipgirlxo · 09/06/2023 09:03

Morning everyone.
My recent spendings:

£80 in asda and lidl. This includes food, some cleaning stuff, baby nappies (6 weeks to go eek) and some stuff husband picked up like Redex to clean fuel hose in a car etc.
£22 husband’s SPF face cream, because he doesn’t like my Tropic one😿

Today we are having day off, because we’re both going to dentist, have nursery viewing and going to Ikea to buy baby cot and changing table. I need to resend my sister’s birthday parcel, because I put wrong address on and it came back to me from Germany🫣 So that’s quite expensive day ahead of me.

Good luck with everyone’s nsd planned, I am aiming for NSD Saturday-Tuesday, then we will see if we need food top up

thereallybigsteelcorporation · 09/06/2023 12:33

I'm finding non-spending, penny pinching & not going out/doing anything (including not buying booze) extremely boring TBH. It's a necessity for us this month as we have had some unexpected large bills come in. But I am sooooooo bored. This weekend will be spent in the garden with maybe a (cheap) BBQ with DH & DC. I'm also going to the local outdoor pool for a swim in the sun (I pay monthly for membership as that is soo much cheaper than paying £8 a go each time for a swim). Given the choice, I would be having a drink at home tonight, maybe go out with DH & friends tomorrow night for dinner & drinks and a spot of shopping sunday. But nope :-(

IWonderWhereThatDishDidGo · 09/06/2023 16:10

Hi all!

Also finding it bloody tedious but needs must. I have put some money into savings already so I can't get at it which is just as well really. At least school holidays are over as I always find that an expensive time!

Nsd today I think.

@IWonderWhereThatDishDidGo not in Ireland - ours have just finished up for 3 months. MONTHS 😭

IWonderWhereThatDishDidGo · 09/06/2023 18:40

3 months?! The horror! I grew up in NI and it was two months there. Now on England and it's only six weeks!

Hello I'm a regular on one of the other frugal threads but might stop here for a bit as I'm being very careful until the end of this month.

My plan is to only spend money on food or fuel and nothing else...
