This is the Nielsen Shopping Panel.

I've been on it for approx a year now, and have accrued points worth over £100 to use on a wide range of gift cards (or a prepaid digital Mastercard). I downloaded an app onto my phone, and every week I upload my food shop receipt and scan each item. You get bonus points for maintaining 4-week and 12-week streaks, and occasional surveys earn you another handy bonus.

Definitely a long term thing, but it doesn't take me ages as I do a main shop/scan it all at once, and could be very handy for Christmas etc.

Ooh, hello @evtheria ! I used to take part many moons ago! It was a slow but rewarding back burner. Thanks for the update, I might sign up again and see if I can join. I remember back then there being requirements for a spread of the demographics across the country with different spending patterns. It was really helpful for getting gifts with the vouchers. 🙏

Thanks. I've just registered and waiting on my call or text and the emails

@HorribleHisTories15 Hi again! I've just redeemed my balance for £100 digital Mastercard, which I then regretted as I couldn't use it for what I wanted... but figured out if I invoiced myself via PayPal I could "pay" myself with it! Minus a small fee :)

@crochetmylifeaway Hope it's not a long wait! It might seem like a bit of a boring thing to do but it became part of putting away my weekly shop, and it was v satisfying to watch the points accrue.

Very clever @evtheria ! I'll definitely be signing up then, as 10years ago the only payment options were via vouchers with WH Smiths and Amazon etc. The PayPal option sounds brill! Well done! Thank you for the thread!

I've joined and would like to know how many points you need for a voucher or gift card, say £10. There is no information available on the app.

When I did it was £25. I decided it wasn't worth it.

Did it ages ago where you had to plug the scanner in at home. Got me enough Argos points at the time to get a Wii for Christmas.

The cheapest redemption is £25 gift cards (huge range of shops, travel sites, activity things, restaurants). Then it goes up into £30, £50... so on.

It's not like those survey sites where you're waiting for a £10 cash out, definitely a long term thing but it's reliable and (for me) worth doing because I have a weekly food shop to put away anyway so I might as well!

I don't know if I'd have stuck with it if I needed a scanner thing as well, I find the phone app handy. A Wii 'for free' is pretty nice, huh!

After doing my first redemption (Mastercard £100) I'm slowly building up again, trying to resist swapping early for a smaller gift card to Argos or Amazon, etc!

So how many points do you need to get a £25 gift card? Just trying to work out if it's worth the bother.

evtheria · 12/09/2023 15:07

Most £25 gift cards = 2961 points

Weekly scan = 90pts
Weekly "On Holiday" = 75pts*
Weekly "No purchases" = 75pts*

3 out of 4 continuous weeks of activity = 150 bonus points
4 out of 4 weeks = 200 bonus points
9+ out of 12 weeks = 300 bonus points

Surveys are variable amounts of points eg 50pts
You'll have to do the math!

*Tell them you're going on holiday or enter the 'no purchases'. If you simply don't do anything you've not logged 'activity' of any sort, lose the points.
