phoebebeebe · 14/04/2023 18:24

To yourself every month? I mean for things for YOU. clothes, hair done, shopping trips, treats etc. how much are you left with each month?

OP posts:
Bleurghhhhhh · 14/04/2023 21:38

About £150 a month for myself I reckon

TheFlis12345 · 14/04/2023 21:41

Around £2k each left after fixed bills (including mortgage), about half goes into savings and then the rest on food, transport and fun stuff.

Hollyhead · 14/04/2023 21:48

Impossible to say as we’re saving for pensions and a step up the property ladder, but theoretically 2.5k but in reality I spend very little because the long term goal is more important. A typical month of me spends is probably £20-40, on a haircut month (2 times a year) £100 as my hair cut is £60.

countdowntonap · 14/04/2023 21:50

Including savings? £2200 individual- maybe a bit more if haven’t purchased many decadent things in the food shop.

WorkCleanRepeat · 14/04/2023 22:26

About £1000 a month. I try and save half.

CouchToOuch · 14/04/2023 22:33

Zero, but I'm hoping for better days ahead 🤞

Meandfour · 14/04/2023 22:36

After all bills including savings, money for family days out and general living through the month; eating out etc, we have roughly 8% of monthly net income each to spend on ourselves for whatever we like.

Sanch1 · 14/04/2023 22:44

£400 each for personal spends then we save about £1500 between us. But it's all relative. Do you want to feel better or worse about your situation by asking this question?

Whiskers4 · 15/04/2023 08:32

We have £150 each for our own spending. Buying presents for eachother and our own friends comes out of it, so I guess around £110pm - after extremely hard times many years ago, I can prioritise my money really well and don't actually need this much.

Bleurghhhhhh · 15/04/2023 08:53

Remember this site isn't representative of the real world. Most people do not have 2k per month spare to blow on themselves, that's more than I even take home per month.

Xrays · 15/04/2023 08:54

In theory dh and I give each other £400 personal spending money each but with everything costing more now it just seems to vanish with hardly anything to show for it as we seem to chip into it for petrol / food top ups etc.

Bleurghhhhhh · 15/04/2023 09:04

After rent, utilities, credit card, savings etc. I have £100 left for the week which is to cover food, transport, and any extras. So not a lot

Exactly. I never understand the point of threads like this as I don't see how finding other people in a similarly unhappy position would make you feel any better and doing the virtual equivalent of going into Waitrose and asking the women with the nicest coats how much money they have would never be the way to find them anyway.

OP you just have to make the best of your situation but without any details it's impossible to give any suggestions, but seeing as this seems to be one of those threads where the OP just wants to have a moan rather than doing anything constructive you probably don't want any advice anyway.

SittingOnTheChair · 15/04/2023 09:50

Single mum, but only one adult child at home. Earn well these days so a lot more than I used to have (which was £0).
About 2k. Save half.

Yes, I think these threads tend to disproportionately attract a small group of MN braggers and end up just being hugely demoralising for the majority.

It's also probably more helpful to disclose as a percentage of take-home rather than actual.

Forgetaboutme · 15/04/2023 10:01

Between me and dh i think we have about £1200 'disposable'. We save £400 and then have about £400 each for spending. Neither of us really spends money on ourselves though so most of it goes on the kids or occasional day out and any left over is saved at the end of the month for any bigger things we end up wanting.

I don't think these threads are helpful to anyone.

What money other people have has no effect on anyone else.

Everyone has different incomes, essential outgoings, priorities and definitions of essentials, luxuries and therefore 'leftover money'.

The OP might as well ask everyone to post a random number between -500 and 5000+ for what use the answers are.

hattie43 · 15/04/2023 10:18

Tbh any personal circumstances thread posted is of little value to someone answering so I don't get all these ' what's the point of this thread ' posts . If you don't then scroll on by and let others who do want to contribute post .

gogohmm · 15/04/2023 10:20

£500 perhaps me, £3500 him but we save a lot as we aren't spring chickens and want to retire relatively soon before state pensions kick in

LouLou198 · 15/04/2023 10:23

Around £200 a month.

skyglass · 15/04/2023 10:30

That could be said of anything on this site; what holidays people are going on, the problems they have. I quite like the money threads, as someone who came from being on benefits to now being comfortably off I have closely watched my money for years, and in both situations I have liked to see where we compare, negatively or positively, I find it interesting, even when we were lower down the scale.

TidyDancer · 15/04/2023 10:37

Probably about £800ish just for me, realistically though I save about £600 of that and sometimes more like £700 because I don't spend a lot on myself. There are some months where I end up spending a lot on things like make up or home stuff and I save hardly anything but that's probably every six months so it's rare that I spend that kind of money.

It wasn't always like this, I've had plenty of years where it's been a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul month after month. I'll never feel financially secure because of too much time worrying and being quite poor.

xogossipgirlxo · 15/04/2023 10:50

I only put aside £25 for haidresser and £50 for clothes and make up. Used to spend more, but I am saving now for maternity leave. Obviously there are months where I spend more and save less, because I am in need of some stuff, but it’s not the routine. There are months where I don’t buy anything else than pair of thighs in Lidl or so, and months like this, where I spent quite a lot because I’m pregnant and my normal clothes are getting too small or everything is used up at the same time like make up items.

xogossipgirlxo · 15/04/2023 10:51

Tights hahahah. Sorry. I don’t need new thighs, mine are fine.

skyglass · 15/04/2023 11:00

@xogossipgirlxo I wouldn't say no to a slimmer, firmer pair of thighs 😩
