What's best slow cooker for 8 hours or electric oven for 40 mins

Slow cooker is MUCH more efficient sand especially if you can make it a “one pot meal”.

if I was putting the oven on for 40mins id cook an apple crumble at the same time to make the oven worthwhile.

What takes 8 hours in the slow cooker but only 40 mins in the oven?

They say a slow cooker is about 60 W, so 0.48 kWh, ovens are generally 2-3 kW so likely around 2 kWh in 40 mins. But if you can do it in the oven in 40 mins, it's likely done in the slow cooker in less than 8 hours.

But and oven might not be running the whole time, it will turn on and off after it's got up to temperature.

This is the point, I think.

I cook a lot at the weekend, and I plan it so my oven will be on for the shortest time possible, finishing off with pizza - after baking and cooking some bread etc, the pizza steel is red hot.

A lot of what I cook at the weekend is reheated midweek or frozen half cooked. So, I'll cook an apple crumble or some quiches so they are half cooked. Then, mid week sometime, I'll defrost them and finish baking in the air fryer.

I don't put the oven on for one dish - and I have a gas oven that is much cheaper to run than an electric one.
