Child Benefit stopped?

TulipsFromCaterham · 02/02/2023 19:47

I've not had a payment of Child Benefit since before Christmas, and I've no idea why. Has anyone else had problems with payments? I'd budgeted very tightly for this month and not having the monthly payment has put the kibosh on me before I even begin!

If anyone has experienced this, do you know who I need to speak to in order to resolve it? I've messaged someone via the HMRC app but it apparently takes up to two weeks for a response. :-(

Sorry, I'm not sure what's happened. I got my child benefit payment as usual a few days ago. Your child hasn't reached 16 and not in full time education?

TulipsFromCaterham · 02/02/2023 19:58

Nope, she's just about to turn 5. :-/

You don't have an ex that could have put in a claim?

I don't think so - he'd have the cheek of Old Nick if he did, as he barely sees her. No overnight contact, a few hours here and there every other week. Does Child Benefit go to the resident parent?

Child benefit goes to whoever makes a claim. If there was a counter claim I imagine you'd be informed.

It normally gets paid every 4 weeks. When was your last payment? (The pre Christmas one might have been early)

Ginflinger · 02/02/2023 20:06

Have you moved house recently? They once stopped mine for not confirming my address had changed.

I made the original claim. Ex-DP is of no fixed abode and probably doesn't have the wherewithal to make a counterclaim (though at this stage nothing would surprise me!). I haven't had any correspondence about a counterclaim though.

Last payment was 23rd December, as it was due to come in the Monday after and that was a Bank holiday. Nothing at all since.

Moved house about a year and a half ago.

Thank you! I'll ring them tomorrow.

I've also just checked and my address details are up to date. It's all very odd! I'll ring them tomorrow, can't believe I didn't see the telephone number. Thank you all for your helpful suggestions.

If someone makes a counter claim they dont tell you straight away. Looks like you would have only missed one payment if the payment is due on the 26/12. Any chance you might not have seen it in your bank account?

Freshair87 · 02/02/2023 20:44

In nov I had a letter from CB asking me to complete a form to say my circumstances hadn't changed and I wouldn't receive CB until this had been processed. No idea why I got this as nothing has changed for me, I returned it but as of the postal strikes it was all delayed and I didn't receive payment until sorted. Perhaps they've sent you something similar and it's been lost in the post.

Unfortunately I have to account for every penny, so it hasn't been missed.

Oh ok, that's interesting! I haven't received a form but the post has been bonkers.

Does the HMRC app, child benefit section have any messages for you?

LadyLapsang · 03/02/2023 16:48

Do you earn too much or very near the limit? Do you use a different surname at work and in your personal life?

TulipsFromCaterham · 03/02/2023 18:26

No I am, alas, nowhere near the limit. The app was fairly useless, no messages!

I rang them this morning and they couldn't say why it had been stopped - "another part of HMRC" had apparently instructed it, despite everything being up to date, and they complied. I'm not sure what's happened but will have to assume I was supposed to have received a letter, and didn't due to crazy Christmas/strike post.
