Bulb charging from May 2021

I happened to check my bulb account today and it said £3700 credit with lots of credits adjustments added for several months over the past year. I contacted them to ask for it to be refunded and got a reply asking how much so I said £3k. An hour later a get a statement saying they’re charging for usage since May 2021 and I’m now £41 in credit. Anyone else had this? Seems really dodgy! I’ve replied back to the person who asked how much again to ask what’s going on. I’ve had a smart meter for ages which gives readings to them but doesn’t really show us and I’ve also always given customer readings.

How much have you actually paid them since may 2021? It's unlikely you were owed the money unless you have been overpaying very significantly.

Agree with the pp.

£3k credit doesn't just happen, especially given energy prices in the past year. Unless you've been paying hundreds of pounds too much every month it seems like an admin error they've now corrected. Surely you'd have some inkling if you'd overpaid by £3k in the last year or so?

On their help forum it’s been a common theme, are you both bulb customers and has it happened to you as well?

This is an example of how smaller amounts have been added for each month with the note ‘correction’ starting almost 2 years ago and then this morning all taken off again. What were they correcting and why then take it all off again? I’m not saying I should have the money I’m saying it’s dodgy and has anyone else had it or can shed any light?

I had this. Something went weird with my account. They credited every bill I'd ever had back to my account. Then took it all off again in one huge bill.

Look at the meter readings, it'll all add up, I'm sure.

Karwomannghia · 29/01/2023 18:12

yes it definitely said I was. £3700 in credit this morning! I thought it might be to do with the takeover but it’s a strange thing to do when they’ve had all the readings for years.

They are getting us ready to flip over to octopus. I've had the same thing on my account, it's showing usage for the past 12 months.

userxx · 30/01/2023 00:04

My credit was showing at £1700, I absolutely know I haven't paid in that much to get a refund that size.

dont people not keep an eye on their account even with a smart meter

I guess about as much as people don’t not read threads properly?
