How does Uber work?

Sorry if wrong topic.
Basically I am trying to book myself a taxi home tomorrow evening from my works Xmas do.
I'm pregnant so not leaving long after 10pm.
Can I only book an Uber on the day? And if so am I looking at it costing quite a bit??

Also I am semi nervous about a 30 min taxi journey on my own in a tight dress and heels - dykwim?

Log into Uber app today
Put your card details in.
Tomorrow book your cab when yo want it.

Nearest cab will accept your order.
You accept/ confirm it.

You then get notification of car , car reg and driver name.

Look out for said car ( wave frantically like a maniac !)

They check your name while getting in .

Arrive home and get out.

You will then get a link to rate driver ,offer tip .

You do have to be outside for car arrival but you can track it in the app.

Tight dress and high heels will not hinder this journey any more than a private cab firm would....who usually outsource to Uber anyway .
