Company Shop

Hi Ladies

I use a surplus supermarket called company shop.
There's only a few dotted around but honestly it's the only way we're keeping our life in normality.
Now the issue with it is, you have to be on certain benefits, fmcg (fast moving consumer goods), in the forces, nhs/bluelight, or work for Biffa. Added- I think if you run a charity you can be on it too.

The good part of that is if you're not applicable to the above but you know someone who is in any of the list... they can join and take you with them.
They are also allowed two nominations so they can sign you up even though you're not any of the list.

I work in food waste, as a subby for Biffa. We run food waste disposal sites around the uk, so I could blag a membership. Ive then nominated two very deserving friends who are barely keeping their heads above water.

Some days it's pants, there's nothing, my advice is to go when they open.

And yes, you'll see the odd Range Rover in the car park and feel a little confused.

Here's the link

I use the Corby and Leicester shops. Leicester is a hub so is huge compared to Corby.

What do range rovers have to do with it?

gogohmm · 20/11/2022 09:03

Unfortunately there's none here but interesting they now allow those who work for charities, they didn't before when I lived near one. I feel like the forgotten sector, particularly during the pandemic - consultant drs getting discounts at the supermarket but not us dealing on the front line in the community, no furlough, never stopped working in person

Because they park over two spaces as the car parks are always tight

There's one near me. I work for a big public organisation, who are a Cat A responder, but they won't have me. The friend who was going to sign me up died!

There are some fabulous bargains to be had.

TheCatWithGreenEyes · 20/11/2022 13:55

I went on Friday and got loads. £1.79 for a chicken!! Kit Kat chunky 25 for £2

Is this a joke? A secret handshake club of cheap food for people in certain organisations regardless of what job they so or how much they earn? And benefits of course. So surgeons, NHS managers, charity owners and military officers can get cheap food and we all pay their salaries anyway while we freeze and starve because we’re not eligible for benefits and aren’t working in the secret handshake jobs that get every discount going already anyway?

Honest to god if they want to help they should open it to everyone.
This post has given me the rage.

Oh I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to irritate you.
I was just trying to make people aware that could be entitled to a membership

If your local is Corby I don't mind letting you join in when I go to the shop. But that's all I can offer I'm sorry

ah thanks @VictoriaBlossom ", but it is Sheffield.

The membership groups of the Company Shop have never made sense to me.

@PeekabooAtTheZoo membership organisations here all very well deserving occupations, but as you say, available to all staff levels including exec managers, CEO etc.

VictoriaBlossom · 20/11/2022 19:24

@LightUpTheWoods
Yes, hence my Range Rover comment. I don't hit 40% tax, my mortgage has gone up £230 a month, my energy bills have doubled, I just wish the company shop was available to more people.
Ps, the above applies to the majority of the country.... I'm just fortunate to work within the Biffa group of companies (as company shop is now owned by Biffa)
