Now that we're (mostly) all on the new tariff, how much in ££ are you using per day?

We seem to be using between £9 & £10 😳 4 bed detached newish build, really conscious of energy use, I WFH and DS has his Xbox on quite a lot of the evening, but my goodness it's a lot...

Been super careful and it's still around £8 a day. We've hardly had the hearing on at all yet. Family of four in Victorian terrace.

sheepdogdelight · 16/11/2022 18:21

Around £4.50 a day. Also a 4 bed newish build. DH works from home, as does DS some of the time. Trying to keep it as low as we can for as long as we can - at the moment the heating is on for an hour a day, but it's starting to get very cold and we'll be putting it on for longer quite soon, I think.

Cynderella · 16/11/2022 18:37

3 bed Victorian with four adults, all at home all day. Most days, at least two of us are working using laptop and monitors all day. A lot of gaming going on in the evenings. Trying to be frugal with heating and tumble dryer not being used. Cooking more or less as normal, but avoiding using oven unless it's full.

Roughly £8 a day, but I think it'll be more now it seems colder.

FourTeaFallOut · 16/11/2022 18:43

This month, between £4 and £6.50, 4 bed, three kids and an ev. We have solar too, but obviously that isn't doing much heavy lifting on rainy days in November.

organisedmother · 16/11/2022 19:08

£3.50 weekday in electric
1 x dishwasher
1x 30c quick wash
tv maybe 2 hours in total
20min hob/air fry or oven use
(we do have a large American fridge and have the fan on during the night)

£3 on oil work at around £1.50 an hour we’ve been told, we are using on once in the morning and evening(also heats up water).
£6.50 total (family of 4)

weekend
£4.50 on electric (use oven longer for batch cooking or a roast)
heating on for 3 hours £4.50
£9 on Saturday and Sunday.

normally 1 week is £50 average

HermioneWeasley · 16/11/2022 19:09

It’s jumped up to about £10/day in the last week - I assume the difference is more heating. 3 bed semi!

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 16/11/2022 19:10

£2-3/day

Boxachocs · 16/11/2022 19:13

About £7 a day - £4.50 on electric and £2.50 on gas. Sometimes a bit less on the gas at the moment as it hasn’t been too cold.

That's just electric, gas is averaging about £3/day this month.

MarmiteCoriander · 16/11/2022 19:15

Anything from £3- £6 a day. We are renovating, so living in a single glazed, static caravan in the garden. Using calor gas bottles in the van.

The electric use shoots up with all the workmen charging their makita batteries on OUR electric, using cement mixers and other devices.

yoshiblue · 16/11/2022 19:17

Ours is about £8 per day, 3 bed Edwardian semi. It's awful!

Sausagedoggy · 16/11/2022 19:19

About £2 for electricity, 80p for gas as I don't have the heating on yet.

NewBootsAndRanty · 16/11/2022 19:21

Just me in a 1 bed flat, home all day most days.
About 34p a day on electric (56p if I've used the washing machine) and £2 a day for gas (hob/oven/hot water/heating), plus standing charge.

hennybeans · 16/11/2022 19:22

We average £8 a day just for electricity, not heating/ hot water.
4 bed detached, 2 adults home all day and three teens with tech use in the evenings. I use the tumble dryer for nearly everything and cook in the oven a lot.
It use to be about £5 a day average a few months ago.

Cliffordthebigreddog · 16/11/2022 19:23

Ours is averaging £20 a day (approx £10 gas & £10 electric)
5 bed detached
underfloor heating in kitchen/diner & utility
heating on 2 hours morning & 2 hours evening
3 children living at home (one away at uni) so lots of washing - normally 2 loads a day (30 degrees)
dishwasher on once a day
electric car charging overnight between 2-6am as our electric tariff is one third of cost between 2-6am

We Pay £500 a month as we get £66 from the government energy allowance and we built up a £500 credit over summer. It’s a lot to spend monthly though! Roll on summer!

CoQ10 · 16/11/2022 19:24

Heating still not on. Single mum who wfh and two kids. 5 beds.

£3.50 a day but I'm being ultra careful. Avoiding oven. One dishwasher cycle at 30 or 60 mins per week. Rest is washed up. Hotties in bed. New thicker thermals.

The day I put the heating on (friends for dinner) it rocketed to £15

I had this in August and couldn't understand it as we were away for three weeks.

Roomba · 16/11/2022 19:26

Now we're putting the heating on a bit, around £2-3 a day average gas and electric combined. On prepayment meters for both.

3 of us in a 2 bed mid terrace. I don't have the heating on a lot unless very cold. Only have a small fridge due to kitchen size (some huge American style fridge freezers use loads of energy!), have a gas hob and newish electric oven, newish washing machine(do cool quick washes for most stuff) and dishwasher so energy efficient. Got double glazing and loft insulation, cavity wall insulation not an option as a stone house. And I'm very diligent at turning everything off at the switch when not in use.

Tbh I wonder how people in comparable sized houses end up using so much? Lack of energy efficienct gas boilers must be part of it - my sister has no mains gas and electric storage heaters. They cost an absolute fortune to run and are useless, meaning she has to use plug in radiators which cost her even more. She can't understand how I use so little energy in comparison - that's the only big difference between our homes.

OhPeggySue · 16/11/2022 19:31

About £1.80 on an average day (including standing charge) but if I put the heating on for a hour in the evening, it's about £4.

DialsMavis · 16/11/2022 19:34

£3.50 in gas: heating on at 18 for 1.5 hours in morning and as of this week 1.5.hours in evening. Showers for DD and I (DH is away). £1 in electricity: wfh, devices and washing machine on 30 degree wash, dishwasher roughly every other day.

We have just started using our fire for the first time ever so hope to use that in evenings when the heating doesnt cut it, just need to get organised and get kindling and more fuel for it. We had one on Saturday and it was boiling and kept the house warm all that night and into Sunday. I am very nervous about affording the winter ahead but slightly less so now we have had chimney swept. I think DH is secretly happy about price increases as I previously vetoed fire on environmental.grounds and now he has his own way 😂

DialsMavis · 16/11/2022 19:36

forgot to say we are in a 3 bed detached 1930s house with great insulation but crappy old UPVC windows and doors. The rooms we have decorated have decent curtains too.

TheHauntedPencilCase · 16/11/2022 19:39

I've switched the smart meter off as I don't want to know...which I know is bad. But last year our heating costs were £10 a day (4 bed large edwardian house) and I am dreading this winter. No heating on as yet and we also have solar although little help at the moment.

AHelpfulHand · 16/11/2022 19:40

Anything from £12 - £19 a day.

5 bed house, work full time from home

whatthejuice · 16/11/2022 19:40

£6.50 a day 😬 family of 4, detached house.
Been pretty frugal other than the tumble dryer

user16480478 · 16/11/2022 19:43

£4 for today with electric, no idea about gas as it's not on a smart meter but probably quite a lot as heating on most of day now
