How much energy are you using in ££ per day?

Now that we're (mostly) all on the new tariff, how much in ££ are you using per day?

We seem to be using between £9 & £10 😳 4 bed detached newish build, really conscious of energy use, I WFH and DS has his Xbox on quite a lot of the evening, but my goodness it's a lot...

About £5 on electric. Family of four but we run a tumble dryer daily and have powerful computing equipment on all day and evenings.

Gas just depends on temp. Most we have spent in a day so far was £5.50 and that was our hot water, gas hob and heating on quite a lot.

Snowpaw · 17/11/2022 10:24

About £3.50 on gas and under £2 usually on electric. We have solar panels so that helps. Quite a small and easy to heat house. We’re managing on about 2 hours of heating a day.

inappropriateraspberry · 17/11/2022 10:30

About £3 - £4 a day. BUT we have oil fired boiler and heating so that has already been paid for in advance. We try and fill up the tank 'off-peak' before prices rise and the weather gets colder.

Are you hanging damp clothes indoors as no heating is probably alright but added damp will cause mould

Yes, we hung damp clothes in the spare room. That’ll be why.
We should either put the heating on or buy an electric airer.
Very annoying. The specs of mould will hopefully just wipe off the walls and not take off the paint.Only just noticed them.

Athenen0ctua · 17/11/2022 10:34

Did a meter reading and we've averaged £2.20 a day for the first half of November.

TokyoSushi · 17/11/2022 10:42

I've got the heating on for an hour just now, and the washing machine, that'll blow my plans for a cheap day out of the water!

It's grim isn't it?!

I had a panic as I thought I was using about 100 kW per day but mine is shown in kWh. I don't know how to convert this at all as I don't know how many hours I have been using my gas and electricity.

ApolloandDaphne · 17/11/2022 11:36

I seem to be averaging about £6 per day which seems fine as I have quite a big cold house. We are on a fix still so I expect this to rocket in January.

Energy is measured in kWh. 100 a day is a lot! We use about 14-18 a day.

Salamander91 · 17/11/2022 12:02

Electric about £2. Sometimes a little more if we do an extra load of laundry.

I'm not sure about gas but not a lot atm. We put the hot water on for an hour a day and the heating only occasionally. Obviously this will increase as its getting colder.

Northern Ireland and our gas prices are crazy because theres only one company that covers our area. Currently 13.5p per kWh reduced from 18.6p per kWh!! We haven't had the 400 energy payments at all yet either.

ApolloandDaphne · 17/11/2022 12:03

@inappropriateraspberry I see.

I don't think £6 per day is too bad really but it might seem awful once my fix ends and we are on a higher tariff. How much have people bills increased by on average?

The £6 isn't bad but 100kWh is very high! I'm guessing the reading is wrong somehow?

Theundertaker · 17/11/2022 12:10

5 bed house.
If I can keep it around £10 a day, I count that as a win. But we work from home and I hate being cold, so that's very rare. I'm incredibly envious when people say they can heat the whole house with a log burner. Ours heats two rooms at best.

ODFOx · 17/11/2022 12:10

It's less than £3 per day here but we don't have the heating on yet.

ApolloandDaphne · 17/11/2022 12:21

@inappropriateraspberry it isn't wrong. I'm looking at my account on the website.

MadisonAvenue · 17/11/2022 12:26

Between £3.50 and £5 depending on whether the washing machine and dishwasher have been used.
We’re in a 10 years old 3 storey 5 bed semi, four adults.

We haven’t yet put the heating on, have reduced how long the hot water is heated for (we have a hot water tank so not as economical as water on demand from a combi boiler) and I’m trying to use an air fryer and Instant Pot for cooking rather than the hob and oven.

Runestone · 17/11/2022 12:41

About £8 a day 😬

What is your price per kWh for electricity and gas?
Cap rates are 35p per kWh for electic and 10.3p per kWh for gas.
So it depends how your 100kWh per day splits between the 2.
If you have heating on a fair bit then it's quite poss to get to 100kwh per day we did last year (but have an EV)

ApolloandDaphne · 17/11/2022 12:59

@Lottsbiffandsmudge Our current rate is 16.158p for electricity and 2.849p for gas. We have an EV too.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 17/11/2022 13:07

So your elec rate will double and gas rate more than double.
100kWh per day with an EV and heat on a bit is not out of the ordinary....

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 17/11/2022 13:09

People on fixes are going ro have a shock!

ApolloandDaphne · 17/11/2022 13:13

I'm not going to have a shock. I can work out what my bills will be from the amounts you have given and i know i can afford to pay that to stay warm.

DipmeinChoc · 17/11/2022 13:15

In both Gas and elec, including VAT our total bill this month is currently £13.24 a day, ouch.

Zanatdy · 17/11/2022 20:47

About £8 a day for both, 5 bed (one very small) detached. I go to the office 3 days a week now, might increase that when it’s colder.

notdaddycool · 18/11/2022 18:39

Current ave this month is £5.46, but edging up. 3 bed victorian terrace in the south, thermostat 18 for an hour in the morning 19 in for a couple of hours in the evening.
