Aww sounds lovely Tayto glad you enjoyed.

BigSkies No, the doctors always reassure me that they don't think there is anything going on with him other than particularly bad luck and just being particularly prone to chest infections as they say some babies are and they don't know why. We don't even know what is actually wrong with him atm. I think it's chicken pox tbh but DH (who is a HCP) thinks it's HFM with possibly impetigo on top. The nurse at the WIC agreed so hes on ABs in case he does have impetigo. I know they should both know better than me haha but I'm not convinced it's HFM. He's had it before and DD had it 3 times and they've never had widespread itchy rashes like this all over their bodies before...Hes crying so much he's losing his voice and he's hardly sleeping (and consequently neither are we!).

Spent £22ish on lunch for me and DD at local independent cafe. Spendy but it's the first time me and her have ever gone and had a meal out together just the two of us, felt like such a milestone! We were in the cafe less than 1hr cos of the very efficient service but that's what you want with a preschooler really!

needastrongoneagain · 15/01/2023 19:17

Belated Happy Birthday @Taytocrisps!

@BigSkies2022 wow, that sounds so tough re your DS. I can't imagine how you manage daily. Absolute kudos to you. The lunch with your DD sounds totally lovely.

Sorry about your ddad @Timetoswitch. Clothes get eaten at the hospital too....

Loving Happy Valley too @BigSkies2022

Frugal weekend - £50 accessible taxi, £9 Oat Milk from Amazon, £1.50 per carton rather than at least £1.80 anywhere else.

Chilling on the sofa with the dogs, I've cooked a chilli that DD is serving.

needastrongoneagain · 15/01/2023 19:18

Sorry about the promotion @Gensola x

CurlsandCurves · 15/01/2023 22:30

Day at home today, the only spend was £1.30 on a loaf of bread. Cooked a lovely roast beef dinner, silverside was on offer at Morrisons this week. Made up for my disappointing Christmas dinner a few weeks ago.

Made my shopping list for tomorrow. Got a bit of a spendy week. Nails on Tuesday. Tattoo removal on Wednesday. And my Next account needs paying by the 18th. But it’s all planned for and I should still be in credit by payday.

Emergency vets trip today with idiot dog who has eaten something he shouldn’t, fricking labradors

OP posts:
Happierwithouthim · 16/01/2023 09:12

Sat night was spendy - €100 on drinks, I bought the birthday girl a cocktail and a couple of friends drinks too. I budget €50 per week on spending money for myself and hadn't spent over last few weeks so I didn't go over budget.

Lidl shop yesterday €72.36
Amazon refund in my account €48.80 and another one due in tomorrow plus dsis did my next return yesterdat so should be another €80 or so extra coming back into my account

Dd told me something last night about a friend of hers in confidence, her parents don't know this thing about her, dd made me promise not to break her confidence and I won't but I still want to say something to my friend, her mother. They're already worried about her for another reason and hoping to get her help with a play therapist or similar. If I was in her shoes, I'd be hurt if she didn't say anything.

He certainly keeps ye on yer toes doesn't he Grin
My childminder has a chocolate labrador pup, he's up on animal charity page looking for a new home, he isn't walked so I can imagine the divilment he gets up to

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/01/2023 10:21

£108 at vets, little git

is a tough one happier but sometimes confidences have to be broken for long term welfare, great dd confided in you though

OP posts:
Happierwithouthim · 16/01/2023 11:04

I think I'm going to say to her that they need to action their plan to get her help with more urgency and that I'm not going to break the girls confidence but that they need to get her talking to someone.

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/01/2023 11:27

Good plan happier

Tricky situation you're in @Happierwithouthim, respecting confidence but needing to safeguard too.

Fricking dogs eh @lifelongfrugaleer, loveable dickheads!

Unescorted · 16/01/2023 20:11

Happier that is a tricky one. I would discuss with your DD the need to tell her parents before you do. Otherwise you risk your relationship with your DD. Also you need to consider that your DD has told you something told to her in confidence. Maybe frame it as doing something for her friend together... involve her in the decision to tell the parents.

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/01/2023 06:17

It’s a good job he’s cute need, that’s all i can say

no other spends yesterday but need to get some cash today in town for dd lesson tomorrow

OP posts:
CurlsandCurves · 17/01/2023 08:10

@Happierwithouthim that is a tough situation. @Unescorted’s idea seems good, it might help your dd realise that she’s helping her friend by letting her parents know what’s going on. Hope her friend is ok.

Nails and PT session today. It was supposed to be yesterday but we had a really heavy snowfall so I had to cancel. Snow then disappeared within an hour, so annoying!

Stay warm, everyone.

Taytocrisps · 17/01/2023 09:19

My washing machine is here. Very excited - I keep going into the utility room to admire it. It will be such a relief to take out my washing and not be holding my breath in case the machine has claimed another victim. It has a top energy rating so I'll probably make a saving on my electricity bill. Also comes with a two year guarantee

Very cold and frosty this morning - -4 degrees. DCat1 (more outdoorsy cat) didn't stay out for long. DCat2 didn't bother at all.

Happier it is a tough one but if I was the child's parent, I'd really want to know. I hope the help she needs isn't CAMHS (you don't have to say obviously) - I saw a news article yesterday that said hundreds of children have been waiting over a year for the service.

Happierwithouthim · 17/01/2023 09:28

That's very cute that you're excited about your washing machine tayto what brand did you go for in the end? My washing machine is going fine and I've another old one in the shed belonging to previous owner of the house so hopefully it'll be a long time before I'll be buying one, but they are both old machines so not energy saving.

I had electrician yesterday evening to see the jobs I want done and he's going to get the materials and get a price for me. He's early 20s and I know his parents so nice to give him the work. I've been managing a home alone since Sept 18 and yet it still feels strange to have the final say about work being done in the house.

-4 here this morning too and first morning that I had to work to open car doors, that didn't happen before Christmas even.

Unexpected childcare costs today, ds is complaining of feeling sick, neither myself or childminder believe him, its school/dad related anxiety.

tayto no cahms not necessary I would think. our dds go to an activity together this eve.

curls enjoy the PT and nails

€17 refund from Amazon this morning
€166 in chemist on ozempic and pill

Unescorted · 17/01/2023 10:52

We inherited a washing machine from our previous owner.... We got over 10 years out of it. I was quite sad to see it go.

Happierwithouthim · 17/01/2023 10:58

I think the one in my house wouldn't have been used much as it was a widower who was living there.

Unescorted that's great going

BigSkies2022 · 17/01/2023 14:40

Ooh, cold again! quite pretty though, this pearly January light.

£13 in Aldi. No eggs! apparently supermarkets are insisting on a standard producers can't currently meet.

Over at DParents' this morning to take DMum to her blood tests and to measure up a space for floating shelves. DMum is back in the room! and wants to crack on with the next project. Got the house manager in to reset their radiator, which was defeating me - that lady is worth her weight in gold.

Our washing machine is inherited from previous owner, which means it is at least 10 years old, and we're in the realm of it not owing us anything, ditto our fridge-freezer, which must be about 12 years old. Really don't want them going wrong, not until we've built up a bit of a war chest. But enjoy yours, Tayto!

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/01/2023 16:38

Mh washer was new a couple of years ago, my dryer owes me nowt. I ❤️my fridge freezer

g’day from perth.

its 5am here. Jet lag again. Super dooper.

northender · 17/01/2023 22:51

Ooh enjoy Oz Em
Love your washing machine excitement Tayto
Nothing much going on here. Had a good but frugal weekend
Have requested a more detailed pension forecast but not holding my breath as the NHS pension agency isn't very good by all accounts. Will keep a lid on my excitement for now!

Hello. Being reading but not posting. Always a funny week as DS's birthday hits a busy return to work. I feel like the new year begins once we've had his birthday.

em enjoy Oz

north hope the pension is good news. Bit of a financial roller-coaster for you . I'm a similar age, 55 in August 2027. Access to my pension then but think I'll have to keep going - now I'm 50 I said I was going to start AVCs but hasn't happened yet 🤔

happier unexpected childcare is tricky. My DD came home from school I'll yesterday, had to juggle work and her. Not easy at times.

tayto pleased to hear about your new washer.

Busy day ahead of work reviews, DS has an interview (eek), then shopping and birthday cake making tonight. Will report back on spends and try to stay on the thread!

Timetoswitch · 18/01/2023 07:33

I have a poorly DC at home today too. so many bugs about.

Does your childminder take unwell or just the “unwell- think they are fine really” DC then happier? Mine doesn’t take children who are too ill for school.
