mrs that is heartbreaking for your mum and difficult for you.

Thank you so much for understanding Unescorted .
I was so angry with the ward staff , l didn't lose it with them or even speak badly , l just st stuck to my guns , they are under pressure to clear bed blocking patients l know but l feel like they just wanted to get rid of her 😭

Unescorted · 11/01/2023 16:51

They will be under immense pressure to free up beds. But they are dealing with people and their lives. It is unreasonable to discharge into a permanent living arrangement change without consulting with patients and family.

BigSkies2022 · 11/01/2023 17:09

Well done, mrs, and well done that social worker.

It's so odd, the hospital situation at present. My mother was admitted on Monday, put in a single room because she was Covid+, not discharged until Saturday, but was really ready to go from Thursday. It took 48 hours to conjure up the relevant specialist to sign the paperwork to allow her to leave. In the meantime, people were sitting on hard chairs in A&E/urgent care centre waiting admission for 12 and even 24 hours. I assume the specialist was run off her feet and literally had no time to attend to a patient ready to go, even though the bed is desperately needed.

Thank you Unescorted 💐
If there had been talk of Mum going into a home permanently, before this meeting , then it wouldn't have been such a shock but to spring it in us like this was uncalled for and smacked of them just wanting to get rid of Mum tbh .

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 11/01/2023 17:27

Thank you BigSkies 🤗💐
l have come across what you have been experiencing with your Mum before . It's not uncommon and been happening for years 🙄

Gensola · 11/01/2023 18:38

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/01/2023 20:50

They want to run is a perfectly human reaction to stress mrs, don’t feel bad for that at all.

mrs that’s totally normal I agree with life and you mustn’t blame yourself if she does have to go into a home for a bit until carers are found, it isn’t ideal but it is hopefully not for too long 💜

Unescorted · 12/01/2023 07:05

I had a nsd.... Unfortunately my DH has decided he needs to relocate the Amazon warehouse to our house one parcel at a time.

marthasmum · 12/01/2023 08:13

Chuckling at the food debates. As an ex southerner, when I moved to the north I was like - chips and gravy?! Wtf. I like it now though. Cheesy coleslaw I could go for too but not sure about the Fanta and white bread. I’m thinking of your digestion too em, I’ve been there, 6 days is a long time!
Hugs to you too mrs. I’ve been thinking of your situation and hope this isn’t an insensitive comment, but I wondered how it’s feeling for you not doing the day to day care for you DM? You have so much to her and must have the luxury of a bit more time to yourself now. Caring is such a complicated one isn’t it. I was interviewing potential student midwives yesterday and a couple were young carers , it always makes me wonder how it is for them.
Also happy birthday alfie DS and kudos to curls for the exercise! I’ve made a deal with a couple of work colleagues that we’ll all do a 10K together this year, yikes. We’re all pretty much beginner runners (or lapsed).

On a frugal note I’m doing OK. Going to have a big food shop this weekend which isn’t budgeted for, but will be with DP’s 20% Tesco discount which runs out after this weekend, so I think worth it. Boiler service today £137 and o need to arrange the house insurance…as well as work!
Oops. That was a long post!

Happierwithouthim · 12/01/2023 08:58

€13.09 in local shop on chicken burgers, burger buns, milk and biscuits. I've a friend calling tomorrow eve and we don't really eat biscuits in our house. Bf has two choc biscuits with his tea at his own house and usually just gets tea on its own at ours or a couple of chocolates, so I'm upping my game Smile
€50 childminder
€5 at tip - have boot filled with Christmas cardboard(free to recycle) recycling bag(prepaid), box of cans & glass(free) and one black bag, I'm going to town later getting my nails done so will drop this stuff off also.

martha that 20% discount will be a great help

I've a lot of admin stuff to do too, car insurance renewal, vhi claim, med 1 tax return, another week has passed and I haven't done my ynab weekly figures yet.

Dc are getting haircuts today €20/€25
Will try out new local takeaway after basketball this evening approx €30

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/01/2023 09:02

My car tax has arrived £165
it has some advice after yesterdays service so will like around for them rather than pay dealer price. It’s beautifully clean now though dh did apologize for me when they collected it, literally a stable | kennel on wheels. I did feel bad for the car valet person

Extra spends €48.12 diesel not out but it's a job done and I'd to go to cash machine anyhow
€3.88 milk & choc spread for Fri morn breakfast, going to hide choc spread unless they ask for pancakes
€3.25 on a sandwich as a treat to myself it's a shop near a school so the bread was really cheap & dry, very disappointing.

Got my nails done paid for last week €25 shellac & biab removal & vitagel application so basically a base cost activated with gel light.
Anyone any advice I take biotin daily well 5 days a week anyhow 1000mg, biab only lasted about 2.5 weeks on 5 of my nails before lifting it's known to last up to 6 months! My work colleague got shellac done same day as mine and hers were perfect 3 weeks later. I don't have a manual job, the nails that had biab grew long alright
Need recommended an oil to me years ago I bought it but it didn't make much difference

ememem84 · 12/01/2023 19:23

Digestion issues sorted. Hoorah.

fanta and bread was wierd. Mince on toast not to wierd

took the kids bowling yesterday then for sushi with their cousins. Having never had sushi before they loved it!

mil was in a silly mood yesterday. She almost made me crash on the freeway by causing confusion re an exit. Then DH told her off for that.

we were meant to be going for dinner with mil and the wider family but got disinvited - apparently it’s not suitable for kids and would be too busy (which is why aunty G said they’d go for 5pm with their grandkids….)

mil made such a fuss about it. We said that we obviously weren’t wanted so we’d do our own thing.

Annoying because this was planned in and we had enough food in the house to let us until
monday when we leave for perth. Had planned meals etc so had to scrabble around to throw something together. But made a really tasty risotto and salad.

I’ve also put my foot in it with Aussie sil. DH is a groomsman at their wedding next weekend. They have a suit for him which we might need to get altered. Mil has been saying all the time that she’s not hiring a car in Aussie because Bil will pick her up from airport and will drive her about. So we have hired a car without space for her (on purpose because she’s been a nightmare to drive with). I sent a WhatsApp to sil and asked her if they could bring dhs suit to the airport with them when they pick up mil and take her to the place we’re staying (holiday campsite thing - all staying in the same place but seperate cabins).

aussie sil and Bil knew nothing about having to do airport pick ups. Or that mil isn’t hiring a car. Oops.

em you can only go with the info given.

happier my nail advice extends to the best way to keep them clean while camping. (Do the washing up after breakfast not dinner).

Because I know you lot are a font of knowledge.... If a really pale (almost see through) person was to try a fake tan for the first time in their life, what would they need to buy and what do they need to know to avoid looking like a orange and white candy cane?

BigSkies2022 · 12/01/2023 19:56

Mince on toast is often on the menu at St John's Smithfield, a fancier sort of restaurant specialising in 'nose to tail eating'. I like it. Fanta on a slice of white sounds rank though. Sounds like MIL is challenging everyone on the diplomatic front, em.

NSD yesterday, today bus fare to free Swan Lake with SIL, £2.50. on a loaf from M&S. Fish finger sandwiches for dinner tonight, yess!

Still have one duck leg, a chicken and a dozen sausages left from Christmas. Think I will make a cassoulet with the duck and some of the sausages tomorrow, and maybe roast the chicken with a vaguely Lebanese stuffing and have Dmum and Ddad over for dinner before DS departs for university next week. DS says he wants to make a chocolate cake for the occasion, would I please buy the ingredients, find the recipe and make the ganache. * *He will assemble the cake and lick the bowl.

my advice on this would be go to a salon and get a spray tan. Don’t even attempt it yourself for the first time.

but for prep make sure you exfoliate everything at least a few times before you go for it. And don’t moisturise for a couple of days beforehand.

but if going to a salon they will tell you!

if you are going to attempt it yourself - exfoliate exfoliate exfoliate.

buy the lightest tan you can fine. Don’t buy one that’s clear - because you can’t see it when you put it on.

I’ve used mousse ones before and they’re really good. St tropez is my go to. Use gloves (not a mitt because the mitt soaks up some of the tan and you might get a patchy coverage).

if you look on YouTube for the hondrou twins they will have loads of advice re tanning. Warning they’re annoying. But they seemingly only do tanning. https://youtube.com/@hondroutwins

ememem84 · 12/01/2023 20:13

We’re off to see a Māori cultural show today. It’s a 2 hour drive. But worth it for the experience.

I’ve paid nz$80 for the 4 of us. Includes the traditional welcome to the Marae stories dancing haka and a hangi (cooking underground).

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/01/2023 20:29

I’m very pale and use the build up tan stuff but every other day. Needs practice to not be streaky so for an event I would go to a salon too

em sil shouldn’t be too upset as you weren’t to know they didn’t know. A mil issue as they say

blooming windy here £185 on new gate, on fence watch now
