Freelance your main job on the side if possible. That's where the real money will come from
Think about your skills / knowledge and apply it to other places, either as a sole trader or consultancy company.

I am pretty well paid in my main job but earn and extra £500- 1000 freelancing as well.
Its not steady work but it’s most months. It’s down to having built up contacts over many years though, it would be very hard to just get the work straight away and I wouldn’t have time to look for it so I only do stuff I am approached about

If you know exactly how it works then why did you ask about side income/
seems you know how to get it 😂

I would think by far the majority won't get sucked into real betting. For an awful lot of people this is a real money earner

Yes, but "most" people don't become alcoholics, chain smokers or heroin addicts, but there are still restrictions/prohibitions/warnings etc to protect people and hopefully limit the numbers getting into trouble.

LauraAshleyDuvetCover · 18/10/2022 12:54

Refereeing.

More outdoorsy than some of the other options. Grin You want local people to get to know and book you though, otherwise the driving can be a pain.

MaraScottie · 18/10/2022 12:54

I never recommend MB to anyone who feels they might get sucked into gambling. Even read my op on this thread and I said as much.

Works brilliantly for me. I've made a fortune over the past 3 years, all tax free and legal. I appreciate its not for everyone.

If you go to any of the MB subscription sites too they are extremely forthcoming that gambling (or deviating from the proven process) is NOT recommended.

Don't get why you ask the question in the first place, then appear to be giving advice on matched betting I. Several comments further down the thread. Is this a hoax/ad/false account?

Agree with this 100%. You occasionally get people in the MB forums or FB groups who have either not understood how the system works or who are placing bets that are not properly matched, ie. gambling. These people will generally have the error of their ways pointed out to them very swiftly.

The vast majority of matched betting offers, when done properly, are risk-free, as long as you've understood the process (spend a LOT of time watching the videos and reading the guides before you start) and you're careful not to make careless mistakes.

As others have said, you know how much profit you're going to make before you place the bets, and that profit is the same regardless of the result of the event - so pretty much by definition that' is not gambling, since the outcome is already known.

The casino offers are a bit closer to gambling, since they rely on long-term value over many many offers, and you can lose significant amounts of money while waiting for the overall outcome to match the mathematical prediction. But again there are risk-free casino offers: lots of sites have daily offers of free spins or pick a box type games where you will generally not win anything or just a few pence, but can occasionally win large or even very large amounts - I once won nearly £2k off five free spins, for eg.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 18/10/2022 13:27

Because matched betting isn't a long term option, once you've done the welcome offers and a few other incentives the time taken to earn decent money becomes untenable or the bookies cotton on to the fact you're playing the system and shut your account.
I did it a few years back and made about £5k, didn't become a problem gambler because I followed the rules. If you are someone who has impulsive or addictive tendencies it's a bad idea but otherwise it's an excellent way of making guaranteed profit.

dworky · 18/10/2022 13:36

antelopevalley · 18/10/2022 01:21

Be careful. A lot of people have built up debts getting into gambling. If you have any pull at all towards gambling, do not do this.

Matched betting isn't gambling as profit does not depend on the outcome of whatever has been match-betted!

dworky · 18/10/2022 13:39

antelopevalley · 18/10/2022 11:31

Matched betting is a way to pull people into gambling. Do people really think they keep getting offers that cover the full cost of the bet? Gambling addiction is at an all-time high.

No, it isn't. You do your offers, earn a couple of grand & then stop. There is no risk with matched betting so it would not appeal to gambling addicts.

RebeccaRose92 · 18/10/2022 13:42

Another person here who made thousands matched betting and never made a real bet. It’s not gambling. You do not risk any money. Some people will never understand it and that’s ok. I actually think there’s less of a risk of getting into gambling once you’ve done MB as you see how it all works.

I'm very intrigued by this .I've literally never placed a bet, don't have an addictive personality and very much 'play by the rules'. Where would you suggest I can learn more about MB?

Those are the big names, but there are other sites as well. Spend a lot of time watching the videos and getting your head around how it works and where the profit comes from - it's a bit brain-bending until you get the hang of it.

I earn an extra income doing retail arbitrage and selling on Amazon. I made 10K in 2 years (in my spare time). An interesting blog is www.subtlelifestyle.co.uk

Place marking

110APiccadilly · 29/06/2023 08:34

Prolific surveys are good - I make about £800 a year and I'm not that dedicated to doing it. I think there's a waiting list now but worth getting on that.

If you have relevant qualifications or experience, tutoring maths, science or English at GCSE level is a good idea. Other subjects too but I think these are the most popular.

Intemperatefatty · 02/07/2023 17:59

I did match betting about 10 years ago and made around £6K in space of 4/5 months before all the decent offers dried up and my accounts started getting shut down. It’s really not gambling if you know what you’re doing but if you’re easily tempted or have little patience then it’s probably not for you.

I did it more as an intellectual challenge as I enjoyed the maths behind it and used to either work out the odds myself or use free online tools. Nowadays I see there are dedicated subscription services that guide you through so any profits you make will need to account for the subscription fee. One thing I don’t often see mentioned is that you need a bit of capital to start with- I started with about £500 which meant I had more money to cover bets on the exchange so was able build up profits quicker. This can be bit of a barrier but I believe lots of people start with around £50/£100 though it might take a while to make any decent money.

I started with £100 and it was quite slow to start with, having to wait for bets to settle before moving on to the next offer but I had made £1000 within 6 weeks and after that it was a lot quicker to make profit.

DomeHive! It's a new app I've been using to earn money from homebuying referrals. I sent my account code to friends who were looking for a mortgage and I got paid when they signed their mortgage deal. Super easy to use and I barely had to work to get paid!

SwallowsandAmazonians · 14/11/2025 17:05

I'm an arty/creative type and have made money from selling paintings including commissions, plus Christmas cards, painted baubles etc.

I do it for charity most of the time because I'm well paid but when I've been between jobs I've kept the money.

I've done face painting for parties too, but again currently donate the money or do it for free for school fetes.

Obviously you do have to have some artistic talent and be fast and consistent.

Plus I've done Airbnb when I had a spare room and no kids.
