@MaraScottie I've been looking into this. Is it fairly straightforward? And how lucrative is lucrative?

Difference between casino and matched betting is that profit is not guaranteed, and peaks and troughs are greater. I've been doing it about 2 or 3 years now, since I lost my MB accounts, I would usually just do 1-2 hours in front of the tv. in the evenings. Income was anywhere between 300 and 800 euro a month. Only 3 months during that time did I make a loss of around 50-100 euro. One month I made 1,200. It's all about sticking with the right offers. I subscribe with TeamCasino and it makes tracking and finding the offers really easy. Absolutely worth the investment.

An important note though, don't ever deviate from the instructions or the recommended offers. If you think you might be tempted by gambling, it's not the right activity for you.

At the right time of year canvassing for the electoral register. It's going on now in my area. You get paid to collect the forms from houses.

Matched betting. I read about it on here many years ago and made £10k tax free over the course of a year or two.

I did matched betting for a few years (several accounts!) and made over £30k. Eventually offers ran dry/accounts got flagged so had to stop. It took up a LOT of time but I was doing it on top of a nursing degree.
Aim was to earn a deposit, ended up using the money to live on as DH wasn't working, but at least we didn't get into debt.

paintitallover · 17/10/2022 22:01

It's hard to believe that any sort of betting doesn't end up with you as the loser. That's the point of betting.

EmmaC78 · 17/10/2022 22:08

I made about £3000 doing matched betting for about 6 months and then moved over to casino offers. I have been doing this about 18 months and have made about £17000. You do need to be mentally able to deal with the downswings though as there have been a couple of months I have lost money or made very little. I subscribe to Team Casion as well.

You need to read the theory behind it. It is not betting in the normal sense of the word. The only way you would lose money would be if you strayed from the rules.

CaronPoivre · 17/10/2022 22:16

As with most things, you are very unlikely to make your fortune with quick-win promises. I have a few side earning streams that have variable profit. The most lucrative in terms of time, payback of investment and fees is executive coaching.

It's not betting though. I know before I place a bet and the associated lay bet exactly what the outcome will be for a win, draw or lose before the event even takes place. It's a mathematical surety. As a pp said, the only way you'll make a loss is if you make a mistake or deviate from the rules. You need to read the theory on it to be honest, it's not gambling.

I made ridiculous money on casino, enough to pay off the mortgage, but there are very few offers these days and the casinos ban you pretty quickly.

Opening offers are still worth doing but past that you'll make £10s a month if you stick to lower risk offers.

You can make OR LOSE unlimited amounts on higher risk stuff. Avoid unless you can genuinely face losing thousands.

If you've never done it you can make hundreds quite quickly on matched betting with no real risk (other than cocking up).

katmeouws · 17/10/2022 22:37

Matched betting? See you all in gamblers anonymous.

SweetSakura · 17/10/2022 22:37

A more slow burn approach but my strategy instead has been to really "lean in" to my main job- doing extra hours etc to deliver results when needed. And it's paid off in a series of promotions. So always worth asking whether a side hussle is a better use of time than investing in your career.

DoodlePug · 17/10/2022 22:38

No worries, it's not gambling, it's guaranteed profit of a fixed amount before you even place the bet.

But actually if you've any sort of addictive personality it's best not to start.

Eeksteek · 17/10/2022 23:00

Dfr focus groups are good. They don’t come up very often, but when you fit a demographic they are £40-£70 for an hour or two’s wittering about local woods or ready meals. Certainly worth registering. I follow them on Facebook.

Not a side hustle, but Olio is worth keeping an eye on. Lots of bread, but enough other stuff to make a dent in the shopping bill sometimes.

Bedsheets4knickers · 17/10/2022 23:06

I've become a cleaner and I charge £15 an hour . I made £45 today before I started my shift . I've got another £30 booked in for tomorrow then £120 booked in from Friday to Sunday .. I'm not saying that's amazing but actually it stops me having to use my bank card .

Be careful. A lot of people have built up debts getting into gambling. If you have any pull at all towards gambling, do not do this.

It is betting. Every gambler says it is a sure bet. Can't lose, etc.

antelopevalley · 18/10/2022 01:35

And every gambler inflates their wins adding up their winnings, and ignoring their losses. So always take with a pinch of salt.

MaraScottie · 18/10/2022 07:45

You literally don't understand how matched betting differs from betting.

You place both a bet for and against the event so all eventualities are covered. You use a selection of different calculators so when your lay bet has lower odds than your for bet, you make a profit. Or you make a tiny loss (your ql) for promotions offered by the bookies so you get free bets and follow the same process for profit. It's a defined process that is backed up by actual maths.

Honestly educate yourself before making stupid statements like that.

I've heard great things about Forever Living....... worth thinking about

Sorry. Sorry.

I mean I HAVEN'T heard great things about Forever Living ... DEFINITELY NOT worth thinking about.

Seriously though avoid MLMs like the plague.

Scautish · 18/10/2022 08:01

Agree with those expressing concern about matched betting. Even though it’s “free” money to bet with, you’d be foolish to think that gambling companies are unaware - there will be a huge amount of psychology at play. If you are making money, it means that someone else has lost. Because the gambling companies don’t lose.

I have made over £1000 in less than a year doing intellizoom surveys - website testing. They email when studies are available so you don't have to constantly be online checking it.

I used to do Qmee, but they are soooo boring. It is handy if you need money fast though as they pay up straight away. If I needed £10 urgently then I would do these again.

Yougov is not worth the time or effort - took over a year to make £50.

Sign up with a temping agency. There is a lot of temp work out there.

They suck you in with offers/discounts etc in a "safe" way so you can't lose, then force you into "proper" trading accounts where your risks are higher and you can lose big money. Hence why previous posters are mentioning they stopped when their accounts (free, incentivised etc) were closed!

You should read about it before commenting....its not gambling....you know exactly what your profit will be at the time of placing your bets regardless of the outcome of the event....thats why the bookies dont like it....
