Welcome rattle

Sold a coat on Vinted so need to get it sent off today ideally. I’m getting the hang of it now I think. Still think it’s much better as a buyer, but getting money to spend on there by selling is attractive, feels like I’m getting free clothes!
Have to do part of my last masters assignment today, it’s due in in two weeks and it’s nowhere near ready 😱
Meal plan:
veggie lasagne and salad
shepherdess pie and wilted chard
chicken and tomatillo curry with rice
Veggie sausages with creamed spinach and mash
chicken thigh tray bake wrapped in prosciutto with roasted red onion, new potato, cherry tomatoes and olives

We are having friends over for dinner and the tray baked chicken is always a winner - need to think of an easy but impressive pudding 🤣

Sorry about ddog @AdoraBell

We've also had a bereavement during the night. And we're in bits.

I feel like I've had the rug pulled from under me.

I can't remember who it was upthread but someone recommended the M&S coconut perfume. I bought it just now while also buying flowers and it's absolutely beautiful. And just £5!

A tiny little smile and joy for me on a sad sad day. xxx

CollieWobble22 · 02/10/2022 11:19

The M&S perfume would make a lovely gift for someone by the way.

Decafflatteplease · 02/10/2022 11:25

So sorry to hear your sad news both @AdoraBell and @CollieWobble22

Also interested in perfume. Might try the coconut one.

Spendy day here, ocado just arrived £130 plus have been buying lots of Christmas / birthday presents for DC and family lots on vinted which is good. And also boots 3 for 2.

Swimming later today (we have membership think we are down to £50 a visit now 😂😂😂)

Got a roast chicken in the slow cooker and that will do us today as a roast then chicken fried rice or a pie in the week.

Gensola · 02/10/2022 13:31

Gingerwarthog · 02/10/2022 14:59

@CollieWobble22
So sorry to hear about your loss

Gingerwarthog · 02/10/2022 15:10

Sporty stuff this morning which involved going out for lunch after (pizza). £11
Ate half and brought half home for DD so more economical than it could be.
If anyone does endurance stuff here's a recipe for a cheap pick me up afterwards (am told it balances your electrolytes):
Boil up 5 lemons with some water ( remove rind and pips first
Add fresh ginger and some turmeric - not too much
Add a tiny bit of salt
Blend!
Add water to taste and leave in jug in fridge.
Drink after tough gym sesh/ long run or swim

Wolfcub · 02/10/2022 15:49

£140 go outdoors. Excuse me while I cry.

mustbefunny · 02/10/2022 16:40

I've just downloaded Vinted - looking forward to giving it a try!

We've got a lot on in October. Weddings, holidays, birthdays etc. I'm determined to make ends meet. We have a big holiday next Easter which we're saving monthly for but I think we won't be able to save anything this month. I know it's robbing Peter to pay Paul but 🤷‍♀️

Fake Oodies for Christmas presents bought so that's one present each got the kids sorted.

WeightoftheWorld · 02/10/2022 17:03

Alfie Ugh, that all sounds nightmarish re: the house works, hope you get it all sorted soon.

Gen and mustbefunny I've heard so many horror stories about Vinted off friends who have tried to sell on it. Lots of reports of people trying to haggle ridiculously low over stuff that is already listed very cheap (and brand new with tags), and then sending long guilt-tripping messages to the seller to justify why they need it cheaper, basically harrassing them. One friend fell victim to some sort of genuine scam and ended up giving bank details out to someone who said they were a buyer - not sure how/why she ended up doing that, but anyway her bank caught it and called her and blocked it all and said it was very common on Vinted. Another friend had someone said they 'didn't like' the item they bought and wanted their £5 back and harrassed them via messages but also wouldn't pay the return postage so friend just refunded them to get rid of it. It all sounds like a headache!!

Collie So sorry to hear of your loss 🙁

Money is a lingering concern in the background here. Need to pay DS's October nursery fees tonight from his new TFC account, they are actually already late which isn't great.

Spends so far:
£19ish on groceries in Asda
£7.50ish on bits and bobs in H&B which was good value for money. Children's paracetamol for £1.19! I've lived next to this shop for over 4 yrs and never even really realised they sold children's paracetamol before, and it's a fraction of the cost of the Boots. Need to remember to keep a stockpile of it from there as will save us loads, we go through so much of it now we have two kids!

Rattlethestars · 02/10/2022 18:10

@CollieWobble22 I'm so sorry for your loss, thinking of you.

Thanks for the welcome everyone 😊 still need to catch up properly.

We've been shifting some stuff around the house so the kids will get a bit more use out of certain toys.
Seen some waterproof trousers on Vinted for DS that I'm tempted to get (will be handy as he loves being in the garden).
I've cancelled my Audible subscription as DH always gets me a deal so pay £3.99pm for 3 months.
Today's spends--
£9 odd in Aldi (crisps for DS, more sugar as used it all up yesterday on cakes, and a giant colouring pad for DD)
£15 on digital images of DD school photos
£12 on Snapfish to print off said photos for us and family, including photo book for ILs and a magnet for my parents (both are Christmas presents)
£9 on Kindle books but used a giftcard from my birthday

lifelongfrugaleer · 02/10/2022 18:47

Collie ❤️

Timetoswitch · 02/10/2022 19:19

Bigs hugs to adora and collie Flowers

Welcome rattle. We chat about all sorts here.

that’s a big spend wolf. Was it unexpected?

DD1 asked if we could go to the shops soon. I had to explain that there would need to be something necessary to buy eg outgrown clothing. Rather than just nice to have spending.

it’s going to be a long week here, DH has a big thing on at work, which takes over life somewhat. I’ll be glad when the week is over!

AdoraBell · 02/10/2022 19:44

Sorry for your loss Collie 💐

Thanks for the good wishes. When got back from the vets on Friday there were flowers on the doorstep from the neighbours. Lovely gesture but it just about finished me off. The remaining dog is very subdued. DH spent £65 😳 on a new bed for her.

£3 odd on fries from McDonald’s 🤦‍♀️ just because it’s there. Spent the afternoon cooking meat and chicken that we didn’t eat this week. At least I know what I’m doing for dinner the next few days, pasta and meatballs then pork belly in a casserole type sauce with mash. Home grown potatoes and tomatoes.

marthasmum · 02/10/2022 20:10

So sorry to hear your news -collie and adora
weigjt glad your little boy is better
alfie that sounds so frustrating

I feel like this weekend and last have mainly been about food. Getting food in, trying to cook healthy things for the week ahead. This weekend I’ve made squash soup, mushroom soup (both in soup maker - free mushrooms from a friend who bought a couple of Lidl too good to go boxes). Fish pie, banana buns with excess bananas from Lidl box. Made some with fudge bits and some with coconut flour (trying to be gluten free), not sure it was that successful. Prepped chicken and veg so the kids can stick it in the oven tomorrow as DP and I both back late.
work hours are finally easing up a bit, but I’m trying to catch up on my mountain of emails. I’m currently in mid sept 🙈
spends £50 in Iceland, £47 Tesco delivery. That’s working out well, I’m definitely spending less online.
oh and my bulb payment came thru too…and DD has gone up to £450. Which is a lot, but not as much as I thought it would be. And not as much as it would be if my transfer to utility warehouse fixed rate was successful…phew.
have a good evening everyone

Wolfcub · 02/10/2022 20:23

Time, I certainly had not planned to spend that much no!

OP posts:
WeightoftheWorld · 02/10/2022 22:25

Well, I can't pay DS's nursery fees, as I've checked his TFC account, and it still says the balance is £0. Cue me panicking as DH sent £1k to it last night...

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/10/2022 06:10

Hopefully it will be there this morning

DofE wolf? That’s a big bill

lsd yesterday just stuff at the stables for event.

nsd planned today and until the shopping Friday really

ememem84 · 03/10/2022 06:59

morning. I thought I’d posted earlier in the weekend but apparently not.

jve been very lax with posting life has seemingly gone crazy here again.

this past week hasn’t been too bad soends wise £20 ds’ annual bus pass is the biggie I think.

it was my birthday yesterday and I was given some lovely things. Very spoiled.

this week I have to do our house insurance renewal - probably around £450.

and pay our annual rates bill £463 (a bit like council tax in the Uk I suppose). It’s based on the sq ft of the house/amount of rooms etc. some bizarre calculation like that it also includes the garage garden and parking spaces. Wierd.

I also have to pay our £5 fine for not doing our “branchage” properly. Ie for not making sure that the tree at the front of our house was at the right height to overlap the pavement. Twice a year representatives from the government come round and measure over lapping trees and hedges etc.

if you don’t do it properly you get £5 fine. And then it gets done for you.

DH is in Luxembourg this week. He only told me yesterday. Ffs. Apparently it’s been in the calendar for a while (true) but it was in there from 19 sept - when he was meant to initially go. He had told me that trip had been cancelled but not told me that it had been rescheduled. so I’m home alone with the kids.

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/10/2022 09:24

Happy birthday em but boo about the fine and the not knowing trip

AdoraBell · 03/10/2022 10:04

Happy birthday em 🥳 🎂

Groceries due today, £67 ish

AdoraBell · 03/10/2022 10:07

em is the £5 fine cheaper than doing to work yourself?
