What are you sleeping under at the moment?

I'm trying to think ahead, especially as various friends are talking about electric throws/blankets etc.

I know I don't feel the cold particularly, but I'm trying to gauge how much I'm going to notice not putting the heating on this winter (I'll have to put it on when the student DC are here, but am going to try not to when I'm here on my own). I'm particularly wondering whether it's worth buying an electric throw (I WFH a lot in an uninsulated building, and I did sometimes feel cold last winter - though I do wear Ugg boots, thermal socks, several cardigans etc, etc to try to counteract it).

I'm currently sleeping under one cotton sheet, and sometimes chuck it off as I get too hot. I'm in the north of England, so not in a super-warm place.

What are you all doing ATM?

Thin summer duvet. A cotton sheet when it's heatwave hot!
Bedroom gets very cold so In winter we have an electric blanket, feather duvet and super warm wool army blanket on top.

Violettaa · 30/08/2022 22:00

Duvet, but with my legs sticking out of it.

PinkButtercups · 30/08/2022 22:01

Atm a 13.5 tog duvet.
I can't sleep without my duvet and I don't like the thin summer ones but thankfully it's been a bit chillier here in the evenings and we have the windows open.

Usually if I'm cold in winter I'll wear fluffy socks to bed and pop a normal blanket under the duvet.

purpleme12 · 30/08/2022 22:03

4.5 duvet

CrunchyCarrot · 30/08/2022 22:04

Summer-weight duvet currently. Will change to a heavier one come October, unless we get a cold snap in September. We don't use an electric blanket or throw ever. DP is always warm enough, and I use a hot water bottle or even two. I find them very comforting!

Without the heating on here, in winter, it's frigid and we'd need a blanket on top of the duvet, and to be honest I'd likely just wear more clothes to bed!

bloodyunicorns · 30/08/2022 22:06

ATM? Nothing, or a sheet. Peri-menopause heat...

ImAvingOops · 30/08/2022 22:07

I've got my big feather duvet out. I only really don't want it during the heatwave. In winter I plan to use the dehumidifier to keep the house dry and warm and use lots of fleecy blankets on the sofa!

gogohmm · 30/08/2022 22:08

10.5 duvet with leg sticking out, windows wide open. It's fine all winter but I have an extra throw for very cold weather

Hellocatshome · 30/08/2022 22:08

Got our thin duvet at the moment, I have worn socks the last few nights as it has started to get a bit chilly. We normally swap for the thick duvet around October then when it's really cold we use both and also sometimes a blanket as well.

dementedpixie · 30/08/2022 22:08

4.5tog duvet (scotland). Will swap to 10.5tog when it gets colder. Heating is never on overnight

fairtrauchled · 30/08/2022 22:08

4.5 tog duvet all year round.
Live in Scotland.House is well insulated

Ragged · 30/08/2022 22:08

Duvet cover without a duvet in it, like sleeping under a double cotton sheet, I guess. In winter I usually rely on hot water bottles for my ice cube feet.

PeloAddict · 30/08/2022 22:09

Empty duvet cover and a cotton blanket

NorthernPud · 30/08/2022 22:10

Currently a duvet which I typically throw off. I'm not sure what tog it is but good to think ahead as I'll ensure we all have extra duvets for winter. Tempted by electric blankets but, even remembering they won't be cost effective now, I heard there can be safety concerns if they're left on overnight.

Houseplantmad · 30/08/2022 22:11

A cotton flat sheet and a 10.5 Tog duvet but mostly just the sheet. I did a wool blanket during winter. I tried a synthetic one but it made me too hot.

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 30/08/2022 22:13

Dunelm have some fleecy duvet cover sets and fitted sheets. Think they are called the Teddy Bear range. I've just purchased those in anticipation of colder nights to make the bed more toasty. I struggle to sleep in socks. Have also just bought a weighted blanket after considering a heated throw as well.
Currently have just returned to sleeping under duvet. Not sure what tog it is but use it all year other than heatwave.

roopeedoopeedooo · 30/08/2022 22:16

I live in a town house and sleep on the top floor . My bedroom has a roof garden about 2mx4m. I do not have any radiators at all on the top floor. I have 2 dogs, the bedroom door is closed and the dogs have open door access to the roof garden 360 days a year, regardless of temperature. I do shut the door in torrential rain but that's really not frequently. I sleep with brushed cotton bedding, a 13.5 dog duvet and no clothes other than knickers and a vest unless it's below 5c and then it's just socks and normal pjs. Brushed cotton bedding is the bomb.

Same here.

In winter we'll have 13 tog duvet plus fleece if needed and I'll have long pjs with a vest top underneath and socks if it's really cold (south Scotland). Heating only on until about 9pm so room cools down by bedtime

carefullycourageous · 30/08/2022 22:17

4.5 tog currently but often kick it off. In winter I will get the thick duvet out and when really cold I add woollen blankets. If freezing I wear a fleece dressing gown under the duvet.

I would use a hot water bottle rather than an electric blanket, personally.

Kite22 · 30/08/2022 22:18

Like @Violettaa I have a lightweight duvet at the moment but I usually have at least one leg sticking out.

But what has what we are sleeping under at the moment have to do with how you will stay warm in the Winter ?

LadyShatterly · 30/08/2022 22:21

2.5 Tog duck down at the moment, on the hotter days I was just under a cotton sheet, will migrate to 4.5 tog and likely not need too much more but have 13.5 and 10.5 if needed. I run hot though. Summer is hell except for at night and the colder the better for me. I sleep really really well in a bedroom at 9 degrees.

LittleLlama · 30/08/2022 22:24

A sheet and if I need it a lightweight blanket.

Bedroom window ajar.

declutteringmymind · 30/08/2022 22:26

I love my weighted blanket in the winter.

justasking111 · 30/08/2022 22:27

Bedroom window wide open. Peel back duvet and use a throw. Sometime during the night as temperature drops I pull the duvet up.

I think it better to have the heating on but maybe turn the thermostat down a couple of degrees to what you usually have it .No heating at all sounds grim, even in my houses without gch we had some sort of fire, coal or electric and oil filled radiators.
I'm probably going to make more use of my hot water bottles.
