Fingers crossed they fit Gingerwarthog. 🤞

I hope the BH doesn't cause too much extra work for anyone. Maybe the Saturday would have been more practical but who am I to know!!

LSW - £3.50 on razors from Amazon, £33 at Lidl (got the free bread loaf) and £5 donation for a runner in the Great North Run. Made 2 trays of brownies, 6 x homemade pizzas for under £4 and cottage pie for later. Really trying to keep in that food budget!

This weekend does feel a little dull and bleurgh here too Collie. I'm feeling rough (sore ears, itchy eyes and about to make a max strength flu sachet) so I would be grumbling if I had plans too 😂

Sorry I'm still rubbish at keeping up with the thread and remembering names, will try to get better! 😊

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/09/2022 18:56

LSD today as mil paid for ice cream and food. Cost me about &5 though i did pay for the beach hut around Easter

sorry people are feeling bleurgh.

ememem84 · 11/09/2022 20:17

Been to bbq. Brought back enough food to feed us for at least a week. Seriously there was so much leftover.

host was piling it up in takeaway boxes for everyone. Nice.

ememem84 · 11/09/2022 20:20

Posted too soon.

we usually tend to all take takeaway boxes to big parties like this. It’s a well known fact that a few of us always over cater. So those of us who do started doing doggybags. Takeaway boxes get returned at next event all washed and then stacked in the kitchen ready for redistribution.

last time we had people over was for curry. I’d made at least three batches and sent everyone home with some meat curry and some of the same “base” sauce so they could freeze and add stuff later.

HTruffle · 12/09/2022 07:41

Morning all, low spend weekend thankfully. Baked flapjacks using up old bananas and a cooking apple so not too unhealthy and took them on our day out instead of buying the kids ice creams. They were very good about it and explained we can put the money towards bigger things each time we save. Also bought some girls shoes on Vinted for £1! So we will see if they turn up / what they are like. Also went to the hairdresser who normally charges £35 but asked if I wanted a dry cut as my hair is done just as easily this way and only £15! Worth asking if you are not bothered about the blow dry or you could just as easily do yourself.

Gensola · 12/09/2022 08:01

Poor MIL is on a ward of 8 ladies which is very noisy and busy all the time. We arrived just as a nurse was shouting at her (!) and nurse was totally unfazed when we walked in, didn’t look bothered that we caught her. MIL is unbelievably difficult but she’s also elderly with terminal cancer and a broken leg so I was very annoyed tbh and worried about leaving her there.
she won’t consider moving to a home near us and she has capacity so there isn’t much we can do except keep offering her the care home option.
Returning a dress to M&S today £45 back on my card. Have a training day for work today, mental health first aid, really looking forward to it.

ThisisCollie2022 · 12/09/2022 08:15

Omg gen that sounds so difficult!!

NSD here as per usual.

needastrongoneagain · 12/09/2022 08:16

gen, I'm sorry your MIL isn't receiving the kindest of care. And long term stays in hospital are so hard anyway, incredibly draining dealing with your own emotions and those of the person themselves. It's 4 months tomorrow for DH. I'm lucky that we've been humbled by the patience, kindness and care he receives, but he's on a specialist rehab unit so it might be different. It was certainly less restful and far busier when he was in the general hospital.

I get a dry cut too, cut, highlights and village rates and I pay about £40!

Did lots of batch cooking yesterday and so we've soup for lunches, or leftovers, and veggie ragu etc for various meals.

Courgette and feta muffins have gone down well.

Morning,

@marthasmum my eldest also knocked his 2 front teeth out, well, partially out. He came off his bike at speed. He’s 18 next year so we will be looking at his options then.

He had a great time in Canada. Just exploring Toronto, shopping, eating etc.

ancientgran · 12/09/2022 09:43

I had a NSD yesterday, won't today as I need some bread.

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/09/2022 17:20

Le sigh ds has lost a school shoe,

Wolfcub · 12/09/2022 17:31

Please can you share the muffin recipe Need? I'm mown out with courgettes

That's a really tough situation Gen, mil will have to make her own choice but agree keep offering the option of a care home

Life how annoying!

Job interview today, expected based on length, lack of notice and info given that it would be a relatively informal introductory first iv in a series. Nooooo that was not the case, fair to say it therefore did not go well!

Workmen did not show today. My level of sheer pissed off at this is high

needastrongoneagain · 12/09/2022 18:21

Bugger wolf on the work, and building work front!

It's this one re the recipe. Minus the mozzarella and chives but added chilli flakes for a bite to them. Worked for us. Being picky, I think a touch more salt next time, if I'm picky.

mustbefunny · 12/09/2022 19:15

A few big spends today... £40ish in B&M stocking up on cleaning and toiletries and then £80ish in Asda which included some party things.

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/09/2022 19:37

Boo wolf that sucks

ah Gen my lovely that’s awful for you all, no matter how cantankerous no one should be shouted at, good luck tomorrow

ThisisCollie2022 · 12/09/2022 19:37

£4 today on a microwavable soup / baked bean saucepan. I trust this will change my life! ;)

CurlsandCurves · 12/09/2022 20:06

Sorry to hear about the interview @Wolfcub

Its been a good day here. My friend who I mentioned was very ill is now out of intensive care following a big and dangerous op. And is talking to family, albeit v briefly as she’s still so wiped out. But her progress has been amazing.

DS1 passed his driving theory test! So pleased, now to get behind the wheel.

I treated myself today. 2 new tops for work. And 2 pairs of jeans as I’m absolutely sick of jeggings that I’ve lived in for years. Good old M&S came through for me with a pair of mom jeans and a pair called Harper which is a cigarette shape with a turn up. I love them! Can’t wait to wear them with chunky winter boots and jumpers.

CheeseMaiden · 12/09/2022 20:23

Hey all, I fell off these threads earlier on this year, but feel ready to return!
Had a rather rocky few months with DH, he is very disorganised with money (our finances are separate) but was in a debt cycle that was starting to put us into difficulties every month. He now has an IVA and our finances are much more stable for now. We do a monthly family and personal budget together after every pay day which is helping both of us understand where our money is going.
At the beginning of the year someone mentioned using the Monzo pots for saving towards larger spends- THANK YOU!!! It’s been a revelation, and has really cushioned the blow when DD has needed new shoes, we also have a Christmas pot which should reach £130 by December.
we are due to move in November, been selling lots of our unwanted stuff on Vinted, we’re going to try listing some other bits on EBay tonight, any tips for selling?
apologies for the ramble!

mustbefunny · 13/09/2022 06:27

Hi @CheeseMaiden sounds like you've got some really positive plans in place. Good idea to sell and declutter ahead of moving. Do you have a moving fund? We moved last year and there were so many extra costs eg wardrobes as we had built in before, lawnmower and green bin subscription where previously we had no garden, curtains as we'd left our blinds for our buyers etc etc. The list was endless!

marthasmum · 13/09/2022 06:30

Welcome back cheese.
wolf that’s incredibly frustrating, you really deserve some good news.
very upsetting about your MIL gen I hope things have improved
Work continues to be incredibly busy so no chance to spend! Will be in work rather than wfh today so will get a coffee. Waiting for payday now (DP on Friday me next Weds)

ememem84 · 13/09/2022 06:52

£30 next yesterday on a pumpkin pot.
Maldonado £60 Etsy on helloween decorations. I’m not going to get to decorate the house for Christmas this year so am going Halloween/autumn ones instead. Moment of weakness on my part. nothing crazy. Couple of pillows for the couch and some bats

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/09/2022 07:09

Great news on your friend and ds curls

ThisisCollie2022 · 13/09/2022 07:14

I found this on Pinterest to make for Halloween!

Welcome back Cheese!

Saw some cute Harry Potter stationary in Primark for Christmas so spent £6.50 on stocking items for DS.
£1.60 bus

BigSkies2022 · 13/09/2022 12:42

Morning all. Week has taken a different turn for me as DM does not want me to come and help them with their admin and errands! Put me in my place. Tried to insist but nothing doing.

One way and another, I need a bit of a boost. Stumbled across Matt Roberts' book I Will Make You Fit Fast yesterday and bought it (£4.99 secondhand). I think I need someone to tell me what to do and eat on a daily basis for 3 months! I know I won't be following the plan in meticulous detail because to do so would involve either road-running or joining the gym again, and neither are on the cards; but I will do a lot of it, and follow the food plans. So this may mean more spendy food shopping, we'll see. Just eaten porridge and chia seed breakfast after 8k steps (borrowed DS' earpods to listen to a podcast, which made the enterprise much nicer, and guarantees more spending on my part at some point) and about to make a shopping list and head to Sainsbury's.
